“No… I-I can’t…” Fan curled over in the corner of her apartment; the toxin need not hit her system for fear to take over. Sweat built over her forehead, crawling to the middle of the room; the dimensions of the world soon began to distort. Breathing was difficult; keeling over in the middle of the room. “Fantasy, what is it that you desire?”
A familiar voice asked, the threshold to her bedroom door opened, parting the blinding light her brother Bruno walked dressed in a heavenly pin-striped suit. He stalked across the floor, stopping just before his downed half-sister.
“Poor Fan” he teased, before squatting before her wiping her tears with his napkin. “Hundreds of thousands are outside running in fear, you can help them…so help them” Her bones were locked, as if they had rigor mortus.
“You think it’s that easy…”she sniffed before sitting upright on the floor. Wiping a piece of hair behind her ear, she did her best to wipe the flaccid tears from her eyes. “I know I can help them, but…what if I fail” she said, taking in a deep breath.
“The fear of death and failure will help you retain your humanity, fear isn’t your enemy; but your strongest ally.” Bruno never took anything seriously, the fact that he stood before her in a business suit, clean shaven and well-spoken allowed Fan to see through this mirage.
The message was clear; New York City needed her, standing before her deceased brother; she watched as he attempted to kiss her forehead before disappearing in a blinding light. Peering up from the floor her eyes slowly met with a pair of black boots.
Finally her eyes met with her alter ago “Morning Star…” she whispered, before momentarily gazing out at the city crying for justice.
“Fear isn’t my enemy…it’s my strongest ally…” she whispered, before returning her gaze back to the costume resting in its case. Fan caught a glimpse of herself in the uniform thanks to the lightening; her slumped shoulders rose a bit; pressing her hands behind her back, Fan let out a smirk. “F#cking Bruno”
1 Hour Later
The citizens of Brownsville those that had not been affected by the fear toxin; stood firmly in the streets ready to defend their city from those that broke free from the local prison. “We’re not going to let them take over our homes!”
The scene was reminiscent of those old war films where the two forces took opposing sides; as they rushed towards each other with guns, knives and anything else they could hurt each other with.
A swift shadow moved over them; only to land in the middle of the street with a huge dust plume. “Now, Now no running with sharp objects” Fantasy said, emitting a low magnetic pull to strip both sides of their weapons.
“You wait there!” she said, pushing her hands behind her constructing a light shield to prevent the citizens from attacking one another.
