So people complain about how Marvel sucks because of all the events and "cheap gimmicks", yet are excited when DC announces an event that crosses over the current books and an old, beloved, unrelated comic as if that's not a gimmick?

I know people have gotten on the Marvel sucks/DC rules bandwagon against any logic or consistency, but WTF?

This isn't an event, its a standalone limited series which MIGHT lead to an event. Metal is the DC event book for now but even Metal comes out 3 years after Forever Evil ended. Marvel just ended Civil War 2 and now they followed it with Secret Empire. They literally start promoting new events 8-9 months after the previous one.

DC events since 2006

Infinite Crisis

Final Crisis

Flashpoint

Forever Evil

and now the upcoming Metal

Marvel events

Civil War

Original Sin

AXIS

Avengers vs X-men

Secret Empire

Fear itself

Secret War

Infinity

Civil War 2

sorry but no comparison on this front atleast

I hope Johns doesn't gut all the wonderful work Tomasi, Gleason and Jurgens have done to create a strong and healthy Super line of books. However I'm not particularly optimistic, Johns fanboy boner is the worst and I wouldn't put it past him to BJORK up stuff to show that Superman would never go to the dark side (kill Lois or Jon for example).

@saintwildcard said:

Superman and Manhattan will meet, and blah blah blah Superman will give him a hope speech blah blah blah Manhattan will be all like "it doesn't matter" blah blah blah more hope speech and then blah blah blah Manhattan realizes he was wrong blah. If this thing plays out the way I think it will (as some lazy attempt at meta commentary that blames the Watchmen for Dark Stories). this entire thing will be the equivalent of a roll of toilet paper.

Cry me a river.

What a spectacular waste of everything, nothing, NOTHING happened in this comic.

@entropy_aegis: Yeah now I read some more of the event and there are going to be so many characters that Batman will be a side character. At least he will get some badass moments because I truly believe that he has a huge crush on Batman but he is just kind of tired of writing him now. It's also kind of sad that Rebirth was created so that DC could distance itself from New 52, but Batman is still stuck on it.

Yup, worse than an outright bad writer is a spineless writer with a limited creative process. Ditto on the New 52 part.

Bleh, this is just like Master Race. Snyder like Miller wants to write other DCU characters but he has zero confidence in his ability to do so which is why he'll drag Batman in to it/either that or he also like Miller has a huge crush on Batman and therefore will never write a DCU story without Batman. His Swamp Thing and Superman work supports it too.

The day Batman is freed from has beens who struggle to realize that their 15 minutes are up will be a very a good day indeed.

Oh and here's some belated April Fools courtesy of Snyder

Is there any character you haven’t worked with that you’ve been wanting to

Snyder: Duke. Hal I’ve never written Aquaman. Cyborg has a big plot. I haven’t gotten to write them ever and now I have the chance.

I wish I could say this was a joke, I think he's actually serious about it. I'm sure this event wont matter by the next week, like pretty much everything Snyder writes. Gordonbunny, Lincoln March, Bruce's death etc, etc.

@eto: Its 12 issues yes.

Its set after I am Bane, that's what I know for now. Hopefully 12 issues of a crime noir in the style of old school pulp fiction which should be fitting given that Bane was inspired by Doc Savage.

Hopefully the Bane covers and solicits are only that vague because they dont want to spoil because admittedly the first 2 sound very thin.

That said based on the art style and the Dixon interview I like that this will be a crime noir with Bane, would never have expected Bane to star in that type of story/genre, he's always been more of an action character.

I really hope this will be one of the better modern crime thrillers.

I'm glad Xa-Du is being used, one of the very few bright spots from the New-52 era. These look really good imo.

@cagnazzo82: What are you talking about, Bane is phenomenally stealthy, the man is incredibly disciplined.

As for the cliffhanger, the objective was neither to kill the Robins nor to rattle Bruce nor steal something. Tom King is doing meta commentary, he wants to remind the reader that Bane is Bruce's equal. Hence the words "I am Bane", King is reminding the reader that the guy from Knightfall is back.

Looks interesting...for now.

@2cool4fun: Tim seems to have joined the Jason zone. Hope they toss Damien and give Tim his old job back.

Or maybe they need to give Tim a new job? if he's only relevant as Robin then it doesn't say much about him and he was Robin for 2 decades so he had healthy time to grow.
