What A miss 1

I can not begin to tell you how much i wanted to like this movie. I had even deluded myself into thinking everyone who had dissed it was not really getting it. I love the comic. It has an old west feel to it. However instead of telling a straight up western story, they decided to make this Jonah Hex like the short lived Vertigo run. That is to say it is without any intelligent writing or a story. The plot is pretty thin also. No matter what i turned to in order to like this movie, it turned ...

He comes to a place called Wonderworld. There he meets, the Mote, a man who is able to shrink to the same size as Green Lantern. Because in Wonderworld, everything is bigger. FROM THE LONGBOX : JLA #11 0

SUMMARY:   We Open on Lex Luthor. He pontificates the existance of past Justice Leagues, and states that the reason this League had to be destroyed, was the leadership, and even membership of Superman. He sees The Justice League Of America as Supermans private army, so Lex Luthor has gathered his own. He calls them the Injustice Gang, and the members are, Polaris, Mirror Master, Ocean Master, Circe, and of course the Joker.   There is a loud bang in the Mojave dessert, Batman suspects someone is...

From The Longbox: JLA #10 1

SUMMARY: The book opens with a shadowy group making plans to attack the JLA. At the end of their monologue, they release the Revenge Squad. Solid holograms of the Justice League themselves. The League quickly makes short work of them. Afterwards they are yelled at by a local man for all the damage done to their neighborhood. Batman has an idea for Green Lantern to follow a possible spectrum that leads him to an open area of space. Unbeknownst to him, that space is occupied by the Injustice ...

SUMMARY:   Asmodels Chariot arrives on Earth and he calls for the death of the fallen Angel Zauriel.  Although all is not what it seems. Zauriel apparently has been made mortal by request, and granted it by permission of "the Presence".  It seems Asmodel wants Zauriel dead because he knows of Asmodels plans to make an attack on God, thinking he can succeed where the Devil failed.    REVIEW: See this battle through Kyles eyes and you can see the amazing things we take for granted after reading t...

Superman: (Standing over the grave of Metamorpho) There were so many more people at my funeral  Priest :  The fact is that no one really cares about superhero funerals anymore. Everyone knows you people will be coming back.    If those two lines are not a microscope held up to the face of the comic book industry, I do not know what is.  In this issue we meet the Tomorrow Woman. She is a creation of famous DC Comic mad scientists, Professor Ivo, and T.O. Morrow.  Each bragging about their achievm...

In this issue, The Jla are captured and only the supposedly dead Batman is free to help them. Yet as Protex,  the leader of the Hyperclan says, " He is just one human .. What can he possibly do?"  What he does in this issue is cement in the mind of the reader, why he belongs on the same team as power houses like Superman and Wonder Woman.   With the rest of the JLA down, Batman discovers who the Hyperclan really is, and knows how to deal with them. Yet, that is just at the end of the book. Unti...

So J'onn suggests they do as they always do and divide their forces to investigate each one of the towers. Unfortunately things don't go so well and the group ends up captured and Batman presumed dead.   Cover: I don't know about this one. I think the two black and white boxes are interrupting the image. From The Longboxes : What IF #2 0

SUMMARY : When Bruce changes into the Hulk, he finds his own mind in control of the body of a monster. COVER :  Considering most of the earlier issues of the Hulk involve General Ross hunting the Hulk down, this is a very appropriate cover.  I especially like the image of Bruce Banner in the background.   Interiors :    There is just something to love about art in the '70s. Herb Trimpe does a fine job of rendering scenes from classic silver age appearances. Although, colorist Glynis Wein gives ...

The book opens in the middle of the action. We see Aric, a savage human fighting a bunch of spiderlike aliens ... naked. He makes his way to the armory where he finds a suit of armor. Passing it up at first as being to small to protect him, he passes it up. In a moment of desperation and need, he grabs the Armors key ( a ring ) and puts it on. Not an Easy Read,But A Satisfying One 0

Starting right where the first issue left off, we see Rowland having a conversation with his Father.  By the end of which Rowland has a purpose and a mission to his life. So he sets out with his friends to gather information and horses for the Affiliation.    This book was a little bit like a big car accident, off putting, but intriguing all the same. There are some very creepy scenes in this issue. It most definitely is designed for us to meet and loathe the bad guys. On that front, I have to ...

Kids In Space 0

Rereading this issue is why I wrote the "reasons I love the 80's List " .   I was kind of surprised at how well the book stood the test of time.   It is the story of a family of kids who are bestowed with superpowers so they can rescue their family and save the world.  It is a childrens book. Leave no doubt in your head about that. However, it is only a kid book in format. The panels are larger, there is not so much in they way of words filling the spaces. It is geared to be taken in with as ...

800TH REVIEW 3

The Battle rages on, and not in the way our heroes are wanting it too. When all of a sudden, Ultron shows up  with his replacement Ultimates. Yet instead of letting the machines take out Magneto, The real Ultimates destroy them and then seem to beg Magneto for mercy.   This issue is exciting. There is really no doubt about it. For some books, that may be an opinion, however here I think it just stands as a fact.  That being said, this is not really a story issue. It moves nothing of what happe...

Gods And Mutants 0

In this issue the battle between The Ultimates and the mutants in the Savage land. It starts of with Ka-zar giving a history lesson as to how the mutants came to be there, and what Magneto did to the humans who inhabited it before they arrived. I liked the use of black and white to show that we are in a flashback, yet I am not a fan of Ka-Zar and Shanna never standing any way other than in a pose. It looks silly. He actually is never shown looking full on to the audience. Something of his is a...

Spoilers Ahead. 0

Summary :  The book opens to show that there has been a sex tape released that involves Tony Stark and the Black Widow. As the team is watching it ( for some unexplained reason ) Venom attacks the team looking for a woman. He does not seem like the same Venom from the Spiderman books, so he may be a knock off.   After a brief battle Thor puts Venom down and we see a few character traits that have surfaced since Ultimates 2.  hawkeye has become suicidal, wanting to die in the line of duty. Thor a...

Talking To God 0

We see the Huntress is tied to a chair and the Man Bat has been hoisted and tied to a standing crucifix. The church's priest is holding a shotgun and talking to a voice he believes to be God.   This is a very strong issue with a decent twist at the end. It is mostly dialogue, and there is no story to get in the way of the plot. However, it does remain a pretty entertaining book.  One question ... Doesn't the Man bat weigh around 5 or 600 pounds?  I am surprised the priest was able to lift him u...

Introducing Mike Murdock 0

The book begins with Matt Murdock getting off of a plane when he hears the sounds of giant springs. The Frog Man ( before he is in costume ) has decided to test his springs ( or in Stan Lees vernacular his unstoppable springs ).  I can't even believe the audacity of contrivances that we are being asked to swallow even on the first page.   Are we really supposed to believe that Frogman made his springs, then the only place he could think to test them was a busy airport, and it just so happened ...

Gladiator Vs. Daredevil In The Arena 0
