Batman is the most versatile super hero, he not only works in funny and fantastic stories, but also dark and realistic tales. He has the best stories, games, cartoons and movies. He has the most iconic villains gallery and so far maintained his high popularity.

He was the first and the inspiration for the majority who came after, the most imitated and probably the most powerful superhero ever. he is the moral standard,the archetype of superhero. The only reason he is not the first in this list is that in recent years he has lost much of his fame.
