FBI Behavior Study 0

A mini series that delves deep into the origin of the Red Skull.   Not the origin you expect.   Instead of telling us the story of how he became the 'Red Skull' we go back further to his childhood to view when and how his life took a turn down that dark path towards evil.   This reads more like an FBI behavior study on the making of a serial killer.   ARTWORK   The events in the story take place in 1923 and Mirko Colak does a very good job of capturing the mood and feel.   Paging through it ...

Great Art, Great Story and Great Event 0

What a great issue - Flashpoint is turning into on all around great event and this issue is no exception.  ARTWORK  Andy Kubert's artwork is superb.   He does not restrict his artwork inside the panel boxes.   My eyes follow the action from one panel to the next effortlessly.   In some cases the artwork is bursting out of the page.   None of it looks rushed.     One thing that I didn't like much was the character design in Project Superman.   I don't want to spoil anything by getting into detai...

Better than previous issues. 0

This is a Spoiler Free review.   Batgirl travels to London on a mission for Batman Inc. but gets sidetracked with Squire on her way to the hotel.  I have not been a big fan of the Bryan Miller run on Batgirl.  He just hasn't given me enough to engage me in the series. I enjoyed this issue more than any other issue since #17 but still, as with #17 I think my interest was more over the supporting cast than Batgirl herself. I know that it is a matter of subjective flavor - but I have always liked ...

Great but nothing '50th' nor 'Bright' 1

Here we are at issue 50 of the series which displays the 'Brightest Day' heading on the Cover and is Part 3 of the 'Revolt of the Alpha Lanterns' story arc.   Nothing extra special here to celebrate 50 issues, just more of the same that we have been getting.   There is nothing in this issue that really feels part of the Brightest Day other than there are a few flashbacks to Blackest Night which for me only goes to reinforce my dislike to the abuse of tagging books as part of events when they rea...

This is not Heroic 1

As a golden age dawns on the Marvel Universe, tucked away in Hells Kitchen is a pocket universe where the sun does not shine.  While the Heroic Avengers have kicked the Dark Avengers butt and been mopping up the mess - at night in the alleys of Hells Kitchen another story has been brewing.  We've seen this coming in the pages of Daredevil over the last few months, now it comes to head.  It's no Spoiler to tell you that Daredevil is now the lord of the Hand, an evil cult of assassins. Although he...

Not Supreme Power 0

Superman is my favorite hero. I was a little nervous when I heard the man who wrote Supreme Power was going to start writing the series.  I love most of what Straczynki has written so nervousness aside I was looking forward to this issue.  Normally I would not be impressed by an issue that has so little action and has nothing extraordinary in it.  But this is a rare case where it works.  What he does here is remind us (and Superman) exactly why he is the greatest hero.   He does not just save th...

A Boring Start 2

Nothing impresses me here.  This first issue feels like the first 10 minutes of a movie, after the opening action scene.  We just meet the characters, are introduced to some drama between the members and then it's over. That's it.  The only action is in the training room.  I do appreciate good writing in comic books - but it's still about super powered heroes, in my opinion the first issue should be at least 50% action and we should be introduced to some villain or disaster - even if it is for a...
