From Animal Man to Batman, Seven Soldiers & Final Crisis, Invisibles & Justice League, whatever he touches turns to awesome. Fun, deep, intelligent & epic, the first work I ever read of his was Arkham Asylum & on that day, I became a fan for life.
-
We all love Sin City, Year One, Dark Knight Returns, of course, but "I'm the goddamned Batman!" is just as damn good!
-
Death: The High Cost of Living is one of my all time favorite stories. I had a crush on her when I was much, much younger.
-
Killing Joke showed me things I'd never before seen in a comic. It came out shortly after I started collecting, and was very young. I didn't get all the subtext at the time, but I was blown away nonetheless & knew that whatever this guy was doing, it was different from everyone else.
-
Grant Morrison is a tough act to follow, but Waid pulled it off & then some.
-
I love the real world logic he applies to comics. It made the DCU come alive like never before.
-
He comes to mind immediately when I think of mind bending, big action, sprawling epics.
-
Black Mirror was a masterpiece. He's still new in comparison to the rest of this list, and will hopefully only go up from here.
-
His run on Detective Comics left very little to be desired.
-
He put the "Dark" back in Dark Knight. And gave us the Al Ghul dynasty among many others.
-
Grendel. What more do I need to say? OK, how about the time he revisited Batman's early career with Monster Men & Mad Monk?
-
Being a big horror fan (& working in the genre myself), it was a real treat to see him marry those conventions to comics. Hack/Slash is just awesome, period.
-
I equate Hush to a summer blockbuster - - not always deep & thought-provoking, but always entertaining & fun.
-
Loved Secret Six, love Batgirl, she has a gift for humanizing the heroes & villains, and skillfully working fantasy into human drama.
-
I really enjoyed his run on Justice League, and it's a shame what happened to him. I love how expressed his frustrations with story mandates through Anansi. Meltzer was a hard act to follow, but he pulled it off.
-
Aside from some great runs on some great titles, he's partially responsible for my favorite bad guy of all time - - Bane.
-
The Crow is an emotional masterpiece that still resonates as strongly today as it did when I first read it in 1990.
-
His Red Hood arc was razor sharp & tons of fun.
-
Cry for Justice was underrated in my opinion.
-
Loved her run on Nightwing.
