The New Teen Titans (1980) (Titles)

With all of the different rosters for the Teen Titans, New Titans, and Titans, the original list was a bit confusing- especially since the publication history of the various rosters overlap. So the only thing to do is make a family of Titles lists to make it easier to follow. The lists:

List items

  • (10/80) DC Comics Presents #26. 1st appearance of the NTT, in a 16-page preview.

  • (11/80) The New Teen Titans (Vol. 1) #1-40. Has 2 annuals. Continues as Tales of the Teen Titans.

  • (1982) The New Teen Titans Annual (Vol. 1) #1-2. I still consider #1 to be one of the best annuals I've ever read- exactly what an annual should be: epic in scope. The Titans literally go to war in space. Completely awesome. #2 introduces the Adrian Chase Vigilante *and* Cheshire. I liked the other assassins that appeared in this too, but they were throwaways. "Bazooka" was the best, referencing "Bazooka Joe" (he blows a gum bubble at some point, just to make sure you get it).

  • (1/82) Marvel and DC Present featuring The Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans. Besides Dark Phoenix and Darkseid teaming up, what's awesome about this comic? How 'bout Raven describing a dream about Dark Phoenix, Changeling transforming into the bird she describes, and Starfire immediately going for Changeling's throat? She reveals that Tamaraneans have been trained to attack Phoenix on sight.

  • (1/82) Wonder Woman #287.

  • (6/82) Tales of the New Teen Titans #1-4. Great mini-series spotlighting the origins of the four new members of the Titans. I mean, c'mon: the Titans go camping! Note: Changeling was not a new character, but he *was* a new Titan.

  • (8/83) Action Comics #546.

  • (12/83) Batman and the Outsiders #5. Crossover with NTT (v1) #37 (covers connect as puzzle image).

  • (12/83) The New Teen Titans (Drug Abuse Awareness) #1. (3 versions exist)

  • (2/84) World's Finest Comics #300.

  • (4/84) Tales of the Teen Titans #41-91. Has 2 annuals. Continues from NTT (v1). #41-58 take place before NTT (v2). #59 reprints the NTT's 1st appearance from DC Comics Presents #26. #60-91 reprint issues from NTT (v2).

  • (7/84) Tales of the Teen Titans Annual #3-4. Picks up from the NTT Annual (v1) numbering.

  • (4/85) The Official Teen Titans Index #1-5. (ICG published this)

  • (8/86) Teen Titans Spotlight #1-21. Capitalizing on the popularity of NTT (v1 and v2), DC released Teen Titans Spotlight, a monthly title with solo stories of the various NTT members. This left one of the longest-standing dangling Titans plot threads ever: "Who the hell is 'Rumpelstiltskin?'" It's my understanding that this was addressed years later in another title, but I have yet to read that.

  • (1/87) Action Comics #584.

  • (5/87) Blue Beetle #12. Crossover with NTT (v2) #24/ Tales of the Teen Titans #84.

  • (1989) Secret Origins Annual #3. Secret origins of all incarnations of the Teen Titans, with a little retroactive tweaking, including the inclusion of Bette Kane as Flamebird, which should have been awesome, but wasn't.

  • (1999) The New Teen Titans Archives, V1-4 HC.

  • (12/00) Millennium Edition: The New Teen Titans #1. Reprint of NTT (v1) #1.

  • (11/05) Titans Companion V.1-2. Books published by TwoMorrows, compiling articles from their various magazines, related to the Teen Titans.

  • (11/10) Justice League of America #49. Not a significant appearance, but I think it goes to show that there are even creators who long for a return of the NTT version of the team.

  • (9/11) The New Teen Titans: Games. HC graphic novel. This was such an awesome throwback to the NTT days. And it reused the name "Gamesmaster" from Dial "H" For Hero. Very cool.

  • (9/14) The New Teen Titans, V1-14 TPB. (I think they're up to V17 now, but I'll have to check later)

  • (6/15) Convergence: The New Teen Titans #1-2. Although I wasn't overly enthused with the Convergence storyline, this is one of those Convergence titles that gave me inner nostalgic glee, just because it existed.
