This list is also part of my "Arms of Another" series.
Cover homages to Michelangelo's The Pieta in chronological order. But first, the original...
Reviews I have read say that Michaelangelo's statue, The Pieta (the Madonna holding the body of the Christ; sculpted in 1499), is the inspiration for covers like X-Men #136 and Crisis on Infinite Earths #7. I don't know - the pose is definitely similar, with the arm hanging down, and head pointed to the left, but she's sitting down. On most of the covers like X-Men or Crisis, the one holding the body is standing.
However, there are some covers that are definitely based on The Pieta. So this list will be limited to those covers.
What is "Arms of Another?"
"Arms of Another" is when "A" is holding "B" in their arms. I have several categories for this:
.Arms of Another: "A" has "B" in their arms, but it doesn't quite fit the other lists.
