Baby Alive (Comic Ads #39)
| Comic Ads are more than just the mountain of Hostess Ads we know and love. Over the years, many a company has used one page comic ads to shill their products in the pages of comic books! So I thought I'd do a list series that showcases those ads, and shows you what issues I've found them in. To me, these are as much a part of comics history as any superhero, and I love 'em for the nostalgia they bring. I hope they do the same for you. Enjoy. |
"Baby Alive," while lightyears ahead of "Baby Dead," still sounds like the title of a horror movie to me. I mean, take a minute and read the amazed friend's first four frames out loud, screaming the way she is. It doesn't sound like the start of a horror movie to you? Well, funnily enough, I found that pic at the right when I was searching for pics of Baby Alive to go with this list, after I had typed the bit about the horror movie. I don't get the disposable diapers either. There were parents out there who were willing to buy more diapers for this fake baby? Why wouldn't they just be washable, reusable diapers? Trying to make an extra buck, I guess. It's packaged kind of like hot dogs too- just three diapers, but nine packages of "doll food." Parents must have cursed Kenner over-and-over-again for that.
There have been so many stinkin' versions of this baby doll, it's ridiculous, and it's still around today. So here's ten pics so you can get an idea of all the different versions out there.
