Secret Avengers #2 (2014) Review 0

The Good: I've said for ages that Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Hawkeye should have been cast with smaller name actors so that the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show could have been a Caulson, Fury, Widow, Hawkeye, Maria Hill, and Spider-Woman piece of awesomeness. This book is that dream. It's got the humor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while set in the comic book universe, and it's just pure awesomeness. It's got action, intrigue, drama, tension, and a wonderful wit that make for one of Marvel's bes...

Batman Eternal #1 (2014) Review 0

The Good: I'm a big Jason Bard fan, and if you are too, you'll dig where this issue goes. He's long overdue for the New 52, and we get a very GCPD focused story in this first issue, and it's very welcome. Gordon doesn't get enough panel-time in my opinion, and it's clear from the get-go, that's not going to be the case in Batman Eternal. I'm pumped for this series. The Bad: A lot of the "twists" were already spoiled. And for some folks that aren't familiar with some of the on-goings that Batman h...

Superman/Wonder Woman #7 (2014) Review 0

The Good: Unlike a lot of the other books, Soule has actually addressed things that have happened in the characters' other books. He brings up how Diana has become the God of War here, and it's a nice change of pace for those of us that were wondering if the solo Wonder Woman book even took place in continuity at this point. As usual, they touched upon the emotional side of the characters, though things didn't get as fleshed out as they normally do.The Bad: I don't know about everyone else, but ...

Captain Marvel #2 (2014) Review 0

The Good: As Kelly Sue DeConnick has done since taking over this character, she uses Carol's natural levity to keep the book witty and fun throughout all of her adventures. This is a fun issue that jumps off the page, and the guest stars are a perfect fit for Carol's space escapades and I hope they frequent the book. The Bad: Everything kind of concluded a little too easy. And things got out of their hands a little too easily as well towards the end of the issue. You expect these sorts of things ...

Detective Comics #29 (2014) Review 1

The Good: John Layman does a great job showing the detective side of Batman and will be missed since (to my understanding) he is leaving the Bat-Family. We get the conclusion of his Gothtopia, and it really captured a side of Batman that we don't usually get to see. He had to make some tough decisions in this issue to save the bigger picture, and he portrays how difficult that was for Batman really well. The Bad: With such a wonderful premise to work from, I kind of felt left down that it got wr...

Action Comics #29 (2014) Review 0

The Good: This book looks so beautiful. Kuder does an amazing job really making all of the characters their own characters. And the monsters are so inventively wonderful and feel real coming off the pages. He's really the unsung hero here.Pak is also fantastic. He continues to make Superman stories that are bigger than the smash-fest that the rest of DC (sans Scott Snyder) seem to do. He's got the best Superman-featured Superman book (again, beside Unchained) out there right now. He nails what S...
