Top 10 Batman Must-Reads!

If you have any concerns about this list, please post in the comment's section, and I will revamp it as best I can. Also, let me know which one's don't belong and I will replace that comic with a better one.

List items

  • Batman is 55 years old and is retired, but rejoins the fight against crime. He is the only active superhero left, bar a government supporting Superman. Joker once again tries to convince people he has gone straight. All these things add up to what may be the best Batman comic EVER!!!!

  • This is relating to Knightfall because parts of it inspired Batman Begins. It has very good artwork, and I highly recommend this to any people who are starting to read Batman.

  • A Death in the Family is one of the most impactful Batman comics ever, Jason Todd tragically dying rocked Batman's world. He was so sad afterwards he vowed to work alone for the rest of his time as Batman. Aside from the story, Jim Aparo one of the best Batman artists ever, put his best art into this one. You absolutely must read this Batman tragedy.

  • If you have seen The Dark Knight, then this is the closest thing to the comic adaptation. It tell's Joker's origin and who wouldn't want to read that! Pivotal parts include Jim Gordon getting captured and tortured by the Joker, as well as the Joker shooting Barbara Gordon (daughter). All in All, an awesome Batman book that spawned many more Joker novels.

  • Hush is the most personal story in Batman's life, because Bruce's childhood friend Tommy Elliott hates Bruce's family. So deducting that Bruce Wayne is Batman, he proceeds to rally every criminal in Gotham to help him emotionally cripple the Batman. A great story, as well as perfect art!

  • This one was also an inspiration to the Christopher Nolan Batman movies. Tim Sale's Art is phenomenal, but the Holiday aspect of it can be arguable. But if you have read Batman: Year One, you should continue with The Long Halloween

  • Dark Victory being the sequel to the Long Halloween, promised just as much as it's predecessor did. With many controversial moments, it makes for a BOSS Batman story

  • Batman: Year 100 with Paul Pope as writer and artist, talks about Gotham City 100 years from when the original Batman started. New Bat, New world just amazing.

  • This Batman novel introduces one of Batman's most

dangerous foes: Ra's al Ghul. This one has a lot of flashbacks of Ra's 500 years prior to fighting Batman. Add to that the amazing art by Norm Breyfogle, and you've got a truly great Batman novel.

  • An Elseworld adventure introducing a late 19th century Gotham City with Batman chasing down Jack the Ripper. This is one of the only Batman stories to have any real historical fact in it. Nonetheless, this is a very well-made Batman story.
