Those shorts are the reason no one told you the truth 0

Picking up not long after Arkea goes global, the X-Men must fight foes both old and new. ProsThe very best thing about this book is how most of the characters aren't in every other X-book that Marvel releases. Putting minor characters in the spotlight is a really admirable thing to do. While it may not sell more comics, it allows the writer more control over the character. I had never really read anything about Karima Shapandar (formerly known as Omega Sentinel) but I really like the idea of hav...

Poopy Man! 0

Thanos's invasion of Earth is over, so what does that mean for the Mighty Avengers. The GoodI like this team. It's decided to go against the status quo of Marvel and try and bring into the spotlight some C-list heroes (other than the Superior Spider-Man). Spectrum aka Pulsar aka Captain Marvel aka Monica Rambeau (this girl is really suffering from an identity crisis) has some real potential that really hasn't been explored since the '80s. She has real potential as a character. Falcon's addition t...

If I may have the pleasure of this dance? 0

So Avengers A.I.... post-Infinity...what will happen now that we have a sudden surge of both A.I. and Inhumans? THE GOODI have always like this book, almost every issue has been a solid 4 of 5 stars. Nothing is particularly excellent, but it's really solid. This issue is no exception. Hank Pym once again proves himself to be one of the more interesting heroes in the Marvel U, probably because he's at least a little crazy. Humphries also continues his pattern of making seemingly mundane and ofte...

What is yamblr? 1

I have always been a huge Young Avengers fan, having bought the original trade as my very first comic. Children's Crusade was simply excellent. And I was naturally excited when they announced that they would release a second series as part of Marvel NOW! Eight issues in, my feelings are very mixed. WHAT I LIKEI love how the team is mostly the same as the post-Children's Crusade roster. A couple issues ago, we even got to see what happened to Speed, since he was missing from the book. The new ad...

Vil, stop stabbing Wu's hand, please. 0

The GoodThis book is outrageously funny. And pretty damn good. It'e enjoyable, mature, and all the characters are captured flawlessly. Initially, I was really hazy about the art but it fits so incredibly well. You actually start to really appreciate the bright colours and bubbly splashes. The characterization to me is what really stands out here. Every character's history is referenced and while many are probably still wondering what led Fraction to choose this FF, they grow on you. Darla Deerlin...

What Happened to My Jetpack?! 0

The GoodThis book seems to be playing out almost as an Ocean's Eleven kinda deal, and it works well. It isn't overly cerebral, it isn't really making me think about the meaning of life, but it's good fun and doesn't feel like something we've seen before. The cast is interesting. I'm particularly interested in Forge and Dr. Nemesis. Last time we saw Forge, he had gone completely ga-ga and was seemingly killed in a huge explosion. References are made to his insanity, so we know that that story wasn...

That's A Good Girl 0

The GoodThis book focuses on a whole other new character, Deathlocket. Her background story is actually quite interesting, and this is a character that I am personally really quite interested in, far more so than Hazmat, a character who I always hated. This series also seems to take Arcade seriously. This setup is perfect for him, and I finally see why they call it Murderworld. For once, it seems, he's actually murdering someone.I'm really digging the art too. The cover is very inviting and the a...

I'm Looking At Myself Again 0

The GoodI am very much enjoying this plot, the idea of these over-the-line X-Men meeting their young and innocent counterparts is pretty cool. In fact, it's these young X-Men that steal the show. We have Cyclops, who has travelled to the future to realise that he is the nations of the world's enemy No. 1 who has killed his father figure in life, we have Beast, who is trying to stop his future, almost completely unrecognisable self from dying, and we have Jean, who has realised that she is a tele...

You Mind if I store the Shadow King and some Apocalypse armor? 0

The GoodWell, given that this was my favourite series to date, I'm rather apprehensive about it ending and being continued with someone who isn't Rick Remender, who deserves the Pullitzer Prize for this majestic creation. Needless to say, I'm very, very sad.So this issue really ties everything together. It covers almost all the characters featured in this book and doesn't leave us with a great many questions, and serves primarily as an epilogue. The surprise at the end of the book got more surpr...

You Weird-Looking Freak 0

The GoodFor starters, Jerome Opena's art. Given that the first comic that I ever picked up was Uncanny X-Force #1, I have a special place in my heart for Mr. Opena. His art is just so damn good. He makes all the characters look mythical and deep without pencilling on over-developed abs and ridiculous cheekbones. People actually look human, even Thor, who people tend to draw with biceps larger than Captain America's head.In this issue the villain's goals are revealed and this is the kind of villa...

More Poetic than Shakespeare 1

The GoodWell, so here we are, Chapter 2 of the Death of the Family arc, written by Scott Snyder. I haven't written a review in ages and I have decided to leave out the issue summary, mainly because of a lack of time to spend an additional half hour typing.Anyway, wow.First of all, the first page really gets to you. Seeing Joker, half-shadowed, leering at you, the reader, really makes you shiver. This is not a book that you want to read in your basement at night. The words that accompany this fir...

Welcome to the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning! 0

I'm doing a review of at least all the first Regenesis books. I'll decide then what books I want to continue with. The Story:Wolverine is giving a tour of the almost completed school to the Professor. The Professor gives him a few pieces of advice, and lets him know that he wants this to be Logan's project, not his. The next day, Logan and Kitty greet the inspectors of the Department of Education, who are basically skeptical snot-rags. It's the readers who effectively get the tour, but it's inter...

Blood-Tied and Doomed 0

The Story Thor is revealed to be 100% alive (though rather beaten and bruised) and is rushed to Asgard, while Steve Rogers orders Luke Cage to begin evacuating New York City. Odin has finally assembled his army to raze Earth, when the Avengers arrive supporting Thor. Steve sasses Odin something terrible, and Odin, in all his somewhat confused rage, magics them back to Earth. He then takes Thor to be healed. Tabula Rasa 4

The StoryPestilence tries to give Psylocke a pep-talk about Archangel, to tell her that she is privileged to be his chosen one. Betsy really isn't impressed. Among the ruins of the previously destroyed small town, Archangel, Dark Beast, Genocide, Famine and Death plant both the life seed and The World. They use the combined energies to evolve the area where the town was, and they mean EVOLVE. By about 200 million years. Both above and below ground. They want Archangel to rule them all. Thunder for the Next World 3

The Story: Flashback: Dark Beast seems to have freed Archangel from his imprisonment in Cavern X, and allowed him to fully become the new Apocalypse. They fly to the North Pole, to Akkaba's main underground base. It appears that the Horsemen of Apocalypse have returned from outer space somehow. Archangel refuses to be called Apocalypse and distinguishes himself through a very informal rule of Clan Akkaba. He visits Autumn Rolfson, the former Famine. She shows him her son, Genocide (he is alluded...
