September 26th, 2023

The real Rebecca Ross Hendrix, whom my character was based on, passed away on September 11th, 2023. She was 39 years old. She was an investigator with the LeFlore County Sheriff's Department in Oklahoma until cancer forced her to retire.

She was a friend-of-a-friend on Facebook, and that's how we met. Her story of being a woman in law enforcement who also had cancer hit close to home for me, because it reminded me of my aunt. Her fight inspired me, and I asked permission to make her a character. She said yes, and that's how Rebecca Hendrix became a superhero, and Heironymous' partner in the Secret Service.

In her last year or so, Rebecca had mostly withdrawn from social media, updates becoming father and fewer between. I thought to look her up today, and found out she had passed. My heart is saddened by her passing, but strengthened and inspired by her memory.

Rest In Peace, Rebecca Lynn Ross Hendrix.

Forever inspired,

Chris Bishop

Creation, Part 1:

Honestly, this name was kind of a weird process. I knew that being a dragon, I needed him to have something that sounded dated. I had the name Hieronymus Bosch (a painter who lived from c.1450-1516, and a fictional detective named after the painter) stuck in my head for some reason, and finally decided, "Yeah, that sounds old as can be." At the time, I couldn't find a whole lot of modern uses of the name, beyond some graffiti artist, so I went with it. It is almost certainly not his real name, but I've never bothered to come up with another one for him.

Update March 26, 2023:I've been spelling the name wrong all this time. At this point though, it has become a habit to spell it the way I do, so I'll be sticking with that as the spelling of Heironymous' name. I'll give an in-story reason for it at some point. (Source)

Explanations for height and weight as dragon:
His height is the average height of a tractor trailer (13'6") plus 7-12', because I wanted his dragon form to be HUGE!
His weight is the average weight of a fully loaded semi-trailer (80,000 lbs./ 40 tons) +2 large pickups for good measure (4,700 lbs each for 9,400 lbs./ 4.7 tons) for a total of 89,400 lbs./ 44.7 tons. Stats found via Google.
His body length is approximately the length of a tractor trailer (50').
His tail length is another 50', based on common pics of dragons showing the tail curled back along the length of the body.
The neck & head length is about 35'. That's the length of an average semi tractor with living space (26') plus about 10'. I'm figuring the neck is 20', and the head is 15'
His wingspan I based on human armspan which is approximately the same as your height. So, if he's 50-55' tall with his neck fully extended, then his wingspan is 50-55'.

Imp.1 Project: Drakaina #1.1 (a fan-fic)
This is a tale of Drakaina- a she-drache that was created in World War II by eiter- a fluid that came from a pit that the Nazis had claimed control of. Intending to use the fearsome creature within, they soon found out that they were dealing with the Drachenkoenig (Dragon King) and were sent packing. The Dragon King destroys the remaining eiter in the pit, and flies away.
Heironymous Meets His New Partner
Heironymous holds an interview with Crystal Salt. He says, "Describe my office," and she does. He hires her as his partner.
Heironymous in Indigo

Special Agent Heironymous and Special Agent Crystal Salt are sent to Indigo City to oversee a dragon and trolls who are smelting and molding iron to help the rebuilding of Indigo after The Great Impact.

While on this duty, they are attacked by a high tech samurai who is seeking to kill Heironymous. Heironymous is wounded by the sword, and makes the samurai tell him where he got it. This is when he finds out to his horror that the samurai has stolen Ascalon- the sword of St. George- jeopardizing a treaty between George and the Dragons. The samurai has also taken Ascalon as his name.

After the fight with Ascalon in the foundry, Crystal wakes up in the hospital. Once discharged, she goes back to the hotel room she's been sharing with Heironymous, and finds the Prince of Dragons watching over him.

The Indigo City International Bank and Trust is robbed overnight- the thief making off with the contents of all of the safety deposit boxes, and approximately thirty-five million dollars in cash. Sent by the Treasury to investigate, they have a brief encounter with Shocking Pink Dragon- the thief returned to retrieve her weapons.

St. George: The City of Dragons
A man and his guide hike through strange lands to get to the City of Dragons. While crossing the final bridge, the man throws the guide from the bridge. Once in the City, he is met by Heironymous, and Heiro' identifies the man as St. George. George mentions that Heironymous is the Drachenkoenig. George was invited to see the Tournament of Dragons. It is revealed that St. George's sword has not yet been recovered from Ascalon.
Heironymous: The Search For Shēngxiào
Heironymous & Salt have been pursuing a shapechanger while searching for the source of Wish- a pill that grants wishes. The chase takes them into a warehouse where the Wishing Demon is making a deal with the Liberteens to sell Wish. The Wishing Demon magically sends the agents and the shapechanger across the river. There, Heironymous and the shapechanger face off, and Heiro' realizes that the shapechnger is "Shen" - or Shēngxiào - his wife. Shen escapes, but having led them to the source of Wish, they opt not to pursue her.
Paulette & Chaffin: The War on Wishes
Heironymous & Salt have to team up with police detectives Mary Paulette & Gragg Chaffin, and a group of Real Life Super Heroes, to fight the Liberteens, and stop Wish from destroying the economy.
Pandora Jones and the Crab Man's Corpse
Heironymous & Salt are called to the scene of a dead body. Detective Pandora Jones of the Paranormal Investigations Division is also called in, because the body is moving and gibbering in an unknown language. Pandora is able to command Heironymous to not follow her down to the body, and says she did so because she hates dragons. Observing the corpse while talking with Special Agent Salt, she uses a magic glove to exorcise an apparent demon from the body. She then produces a small box from her pocket, lets out a creature she calls Hope, and Hope drags the demon back into the box with her. While leaving the crime scene, she turns back to tell Crystal that she has an interesting timeline, even without Heironymous.
Hole in the 4th Wall Bar, The

Heironymous hires Solomon Seal to find Chris Bishop so he can meet with him. Heiro' reveals to Seal that Bishop is their creator. He then demands that his continuity be straightened out.

On the next visit to the bar, Chris tells Heironymous that he is going to have to marry a monkey for a contest. The dragon balks, but Chris tells him he doesn't have a choice.

On a third visit, he comes to complain that his crossover is still in circulation, and brings someone else's copyrighted character with him.

Swingy-Dingy of Oz

Heironymous and Salt respond to a request for aid from Oz, only to find out that they want Heironymous to marry a Fire Monkey named Swingy-Dingy to stop Toucan the Terrible from causing a disaster. Heiro' refuses, instead pledging to stop Toucan. He has to take the Red Brick Road to the Volcanic Flats, and is accompanied by Salt, Swingy-Dingy, Princess Emma, and Wantowin Battles (the Royal Army of Oz).

On the trip, Salt is lost to the Fairies. When they reach the Flats, they have a brief fight with an army of Fire Monkeys and Toucan's avatar, Flaming Angel. Seeing that they cannot win, Heironymous agrees to marry Swingy-Dingy. With the marriage sealing an alliance and assuring peace, Swingy-Dingy tells Heironymous he can go back to his land, as long as he promises to come to their aid if it is needed.
