Series of Consequences 0

Apologies for no reviews, but have been very, very busy recently. After an extremely controversial and shocking previous issue this issue steps back from what it did last issue and just heads straight on with the overall plot. This whole series has been about consequences, Thor’s celestial killing axe, the Unity squad being at odds with each other and other such events in this series and we once again see more of this. I liked the issue it was great fun and continued the sense of scale and feels...

Villains use Facebook now! 18

Okay this was a major disappointment to me I love Damian and I loved reading his character development from the moment he first appeared in Batman with Grant Morrison to when he died in Batman Incorporated and he went from an arrogant, unlikable brat to a very complex likeable character and that feels severely lost in this issue, I mean severely. He’s written almost like Dick Grayson, but way more arrogant and violent. That’s not my only problem with the issue I have a lot and unfortunately I wa...

We're back in the world of dreams. 4

I am not a die-hard Sandman fan I’ve only read the first volume, but when this was announced I was immediately interested and even the first volume is enough to grab your attention, it’s a beautiful comic filled with more imagination that most comics out at the minute by a mile and the prospect of more grabbed my attention and then there’s the fact it’s drawn by J.H Williams. This is a prequel and there is always a lot of stigma towards prequels in comics and prequels in general because there g...

Your dream comic. 0

Since the Sandman Overture is coming out I felt it was the right time to review the Sandman vol 1 and express to everyone why they should read this series since it’s just about, as this series is a joy to read every time and it’s filled with imagination and brilliantly executed ideas and while some issues are definitely better than others (mainly because some issues going from really good to magnificent), but it is the start of the series and Gaiman even admits in the afterword that he was tryi...

It's not all snorting Kryptonite 0

This is the best part of Forever Evil that has been released so far and I cannot wait for more of Ultraman and Forever evil. This issue was gripping from start to finish and this is probably the best issue of Justice league since the beginning or at least in my opinion and I’m incredibly glad to see this series jump from deeply flawed to a very well executed series with very good character development and although I usually think Johns writes the villains the best (Black Adam), I liked all the ...

Don't go to the North Atlantic, you'll find only Doom there. 0

This is a really good start to a series with a lot of promise and it avoids what I think would ruin the book slightly and instead gives you a big action book with a very deep character relationship. I really enjoyed the issue and was engaged from page 1, but at the end I was fully committed to what was going on here I mean who wouldn’t be with that ending. I think that this issue was quite slow on the build-up in scenes, but it was a difficult issue to do really well and building each individua...

Seeder revealed. 0

I think this issue is one of the weakest of Soule’s run so far, but it’s still an amazingly enjoyable read full of interesting plot twists (very interesting) and it’s a solid read, but it won’t leave a lasting impression on you like #21, Anton Arcane or the Whisky tree arc. This issue however will set a lot of things in motion and I’m sure what’s to come next will definitely be worth it and the upcoming Annual looks to be well worth the wait.Let’s just discuss the problems with this issue first...

I'll show you Justice. 0

This is a good ending to what has been a good story arc, but it hasn’t been as good as Layman and Fabok’s opening story was, but it has been an enjoyable story, but slightly forced and predictable at points. This issue was basically one big action sequence where we got to see a giant showdown between Batman and Batman gone wrong, the Wrath and it’s definitely the best part out of this story arc especially with the part at the start of the issue with the plane chase across Gotham, but the whole ...

Lex Luthor calls in an old friend. 4

This is my new style my old style was too long winded and unclear and also I didn’t enjoy writing them, but I love doing it like this.I loved this issue and I’ve finally become properly engaged by this story, as last issue was good, but it wasn’t really as good as I hoped, but this issue stepped up the pace more and posed a few more questions that made the story more interesting, but the plot feels still a little all over the place and the Teen Titans are pretty useless in this issue. I do think...

In a messed up world. 3

Sorry this is late a few things went wrong with me mainly to do with work. This is definitely one of the best villains issues and possibly the best out of the final week, but I haven’t read all of them yet, this one just left a bit of an impression on me afterwards. Let me just get one of my gripes out now with this book the title is wrong 2 out of 3 characters on the cover only appear for one page and it doesn’t explore the workings of the Secret Society instead it’s about Earth-3, but I think t...

It's so hard not to hear Tom Hardy's voice when reading this. 6

This is another quick review because unfortunately personal issues have interfered with my reviewing pattern. This was a disappointing issue, but not bad and pretty decent actually, but it didn’t wow me like I hoped Tomasi would do for villain’s month. This issue just didn’t deliver the sort of Bane story I wanted, but I think Tomasi has the potential to make him great it’s just not totally evident in this issue, but it does setup Arkham war very well though.I have not read Talon, so I have no id...

Addiction. 6

This is a quick review done in a different style as I want to talk about this issue, but don’t really have the time to review it properly. This isn’t as good as I hoped it would be while not bad though the plot just is very thin and it also focuses on one thing which you knew wasn’t eventually going to happen anyway, also this took me two minutes to read. There isn’t a lot of stuff going on in this issue and in the end I felt like I didn’t get my money’s worth and this wasn’t a 3D cover. This is ...

What's worse than a Worm? Half a Worm. 22

When villains month was announced this is the one book I was looking forward to most, Arcane is my favourite DC villain easily and when I heard he was getting his own issue I was really excited to see what would happen and what Charles Soule would do with the ex-avatar of the Rot.PlotAnton Arcane sits in his own personal hell where nothing Rots even when he kills it, it returns to life. Anton is visited by Abby Arcane, who asks him about her mother and he tells her a story, retelling his origin...

Special effects.... with powers! 2

I have praised this book since it’s release, but I think I’ll keep this short for once, but I look forward to this book than I do most mainstream books as I know it is going to be a fantastic issue in a phenomenal series.Plot Martha Sullivan is having her breakfast, but is interrupted when a strange man who offers her a job, but she refuses and tells her she will regret it. Later she is knocked out by a strange gas.Review This is a great issue in phenomenal series, and while this one is not my ...

Finishing the card game. 3

I wasn’t originally going to review this, but when unfortunately I didn’t get Zod, I decided to review this, as I’m trying to review at least one villain issue a week, but still I was really excited to read this issue, and to see what it did with the Riddler.PlotRiddler remembers his time in Arkham four years ago, before he enters the Wayne enterprises building in the present and tries to get to the top while solving Riddles along the way, but a guard realises that the Riddler is in the buildin...

Traitor in the council 6

This story arc spans 3 books and I love every one of them, and they each contribute very well to this story, adding a lot to it all, and each book is very well written. I was particularly excited for this issue as we would see Captain Marvel go binary again as seen on the cover.PlotThe Builders have captured several of the Avengers and Ex Nihila brings Captain Marvel to the builders for further interrogation. The Council of Worlds meets to discuss ways to defeat the Builders.ReviewPossibly the ...

Darkseid always has a plan. 10

This was out of the first week the issue I was most looking forward to, it’s Darkseid written by one of my favourite writers, Greg Pak who has been doing a fantastic job on Batman/Superman, and I hoped he would do well on the lord Apokolips as well as he is being used in his Batman/Superman run as well, and Pak said this would relate quite a lot to his Batman/Superman run, and I was interested to see how.PlotUxas a mudder grubber stands in a field, and moans about the gods when they fight over ...

Even Joker wouldn't find this funny. 7

It’s the Joker need I say anything else? Yes probably the Joker is not my favourite DC villain, but I still think he’s a fantastic villain, and he’s a classic, and a chance to see a past adventure of his grabbed my interest immediately, although I was still sceptical about this considering Andy Kubert was writing it, and although I love his art, I don’t think he’s ever written anything before.PlotIn the past you see Joker as a child being treated badly by his aunt, and his aunt tries to clean h...

One does simply walk into Attilan. 4

I loved the first issue of this event, and the Avengers, New Avengers tie-ins both added a lot to the story, and were also high quality books, and this event is shaping up to be the best event by Marvel ever. I was particularly excited with this issue to see what would happen next in this story massive story.PlotThe Peak station is under attack by the legions of Thanos as is Earth while the Illuminati try to defend it. The Inhumans are met by Corvus Glaive, who demands a tribute from them. The A...

Battle of the corridor. 3

Shorter review because there isn’t as much to talk about with this one. This is currently one of my favourite series, and one of the best Avengers series currently out. With Infinity I expected great things from both the main series, New Avengers and of course this series, and I was particularly interested in how each of the two Avengers series would fit into the event, as these are fairly crucial apparently to the main story.PlotThe Skrulls attend the meeting of the council of Worlds after they...

What Thanos wants Thanos sends the Black order after. 8

I’m really enjoying Infinity at the minute, and Hickman has been doing a fantastic job creating an epic storyline, also very engaging and exciting as well. I was quite interested in how the Illuminati would be involved in this story, as part of this story is triggered by something to do with them, and also how the Inhumans would be involved in the story.PlotThe Black order talk with thanos, and afterwards they invade earth searching for the Infinity gems, and each targeting the Illuminati, who ...

Mistakes 0

This is one of my favourite series, and the one book I know will be really good before reading it due to how good past issues of this series have been, and Kurt Busiek generally is one amazing writer. In fact last issue is one of my favourite comics of the years so far, just for the idea and how well executed it was to make it seem interesting, and exciting as well, it just proves how good Busiek really is.PlotThe Skullcrushers attack Quevachi, and after fierce fighting, and a lot of casualties ...

To Infinity and Beyond! (is that the next event?) 3

This is one book I’ve been looking forward to since it was first announced. I made sure to make room in my budget for it, because I was just so excited. This series has my favourite villain of all time (and in my top 3 comic characters), and also I felt like this was finally going to be a good event because it’s 6 issues, and how many issues are most events? 10, 12? Also out of Avengers vs X-men I think Hickman did the best he seems so suit events really well. The PlotThe Builders and there army...

Building to Infinity. 13

Please excuse the large gaps in my reviews for this series I will catch up eventually. I’ve really enjoyed this series as of late, it has had some great developments, and the story has finally begun to look like it’s going somewhere, and heading towards Infinity finally, as this book has been inconsistent before, with the plot being a little all over the place, and inconsistent, but this prelude finally feels like it’s leading towards the story.PlotSuperia and A.I.M talk to the creation from th...

The effects of drinking Devil whiskey. 17

I love this book I could write thousand word blog posts, about how much I like this book, and Swamp thing in general, but less about me gushing over my love of Swamp thing. Last issue was really good, and a great beginning to this arc, and I wanted more from this great run on Swamp thing, and this arc.PlotSwamp thing is trapped in a cage falling to bits while Constantine under the influence of the devil whiskey is trying to get loads of people to take it, and wants to control the whole country w...

I enjoy Batman recently I find that it doesn’t deserve the almost universe praise its getting I mean it’s good, but it’s not the best book on the stands, and there are better books out at the minute. I did however decide to buy this annual, to keep the collection complete, and I was intrigued by the story, and I had some spare cash unlike sometimes.PlotA new employee comes to Arkham Asylum, but his first day is greeted, by being asked to lock Batman up in a cell, but it turns out Batman is only...

Minor spoilersI recently got into Superman, so I’ve been buying a few trades that I can find with him in, and this was going cheap at my comic shop so I bought this and Reign of Doomsday (random choice I know), but this was the one I wanted to read most after I loved Morrison’s other Superman work, and I just generally wanted more new 52 Superman.PlotSuperman begins a quest to put a stop to corruption in Metropolis, and tries to take out the crime bosses of the city, but he’s being hunted by th...

Got lots of reviews to catch up on so they will all be a bit shorter. This was a fantastic series under Jeph Loeb it was emotional, fun, action packed and generally just a really good read from issue 1. After last issues was near perfect I don’t think anything is likely to top it for a while, and I doubt the new creative team will, but I’m always quite hopeful, and I liked both writer and artist.PlotSam returns home after he is invited to join the Avengers, and asks Mum if he can join them, but ...

19 second to save 36,000 people. 3

I'm not the biggest Superman fan I find him a little too powerful at points, and well a little bland at points, but maybe that's just me, and I was maybe pre-judging him. Yet I enjoyed last issue it wasn't as great as some people were making out, but it was still good, and a promising start to the series, but I still feel a little apprehensive about this book because of how I feel about Superman, and some reviews for it have been fairly negative. Trying to condense my reviews down a bit as I think there a little to long at points. This is the only non-Marvel/DC comic I buy and with good reason it's one of the best. I'm not claiming that books like Walking Dead (I slightly object to Zombies full stop no matter how good the writing is), Saga or Valiant stuff isn't as good its just I got volume 1 as a surprise present, and fell in love with the series so with the release of the new series, and my pull list being open enough to get this I go...

This book is messed up. 22

Charles Soule is currently the rising star in comics I doubt there’s any doubt with that he’s gone from an image series (27 I think) a few years back to writing Swamp Thing, Red Lanterns, Thunderbolts and the upcoming Superman/Wonder Woman talk about coming out of nowhere. But Charles Soule has done really, really well on Swamp Thing so far creating a run that might be better than what Snyder did in his 18 or so issue run (0 issue and annual as well) but Snyder’s run was a bit drawn out, but So...

The best thing Jeph Loeb has written since Hush. 26

I adore what Jeph Loeb on this series having re-read the last few just recently, and I’ve picked up a few more details and I have to say this may been one of my favourite series of Marvel Now! It’s not as good as stuff like Uncanny Avengers and Indestructible Hulk (which is my favourite by far), but just the fact that Jeph Loeb has got himself out of the kind of stuff he was producing before is good enough for me.PlotSam has a big fight with Titus over the helmet, and Sam after knocking around ...

This series recently has become incredibly consistent always being a very solid read twice a month which is an improvement over how inconsistent the book was before. I have enjoyed this series, but this book basically is your stand action blockbuster book , with a bit of mystery chucked in. It's not that clever and it doesn't try anything new or revolutionary, yet it is a lot of fun to read every month and I think the series is building towards something big, that will come out at some point.
