I finally watched The Thing (1982) last night. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Some great suspense horror.

Have you watched other Carpenter's movies?

BB

Just Halloween actually. I think I've watched Ghosts of Mars back when I was still a kid, but I don't remember anything from it.

They Live and Escape from New York are great. I managed to see the latter on the bring screen too. I haven't seen Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness yet but I've heard they might be his secretly best ones. But basically all of his movies are worth the watch.

BB

I even had a lecture based on They Live back in university. The lecturer was praising it and highly recommended to us, but I only watched a few bits from it. As for Escape from New York, I know it's a classis and a must watch movie for all cinema lovers.

From the two movies I've seen from him - he's a master of the craft.

Heh, that's pretty cool. You can find the whole They Live movie on youtube, lol. As well as Assault on Precinct 13. Apparently In the Mount of Madness, Vampires and Ghosts of Mars (a seemingly lesser film of his)

BB

YouTube is exactly where we watched it from lol. I liked the part of it that I saw that day.

I think you didn't finish your second thought there.

Those movies also somehow managed to get on youtube, though Assault on Precinct 13 is fair use?

It is crazy that 2023 is almost over. Not looking forward to next year, though. Main reason is because it's Election Year, and crazy things always happen during US Presidential Election years.

Biden has been President for almost 4 years now? For some reason, I thought he was for less.

3 years in next January.

@billy_batson:

How do you feel about the 5 Years Later period?

Easily the best era, I can't imagine anyone liking any other one more.

Does that also include all the L.E.G.I.O.N. and R.E.B.E.L.S. stuff?

Yes. Brainy 2 is easily top 5 Cape Character for me.

Does the Levitz run come as second? How well does his run before working with Giffen hold up?

Alan Grant's L.E.G.I.O.N. run seems like a hidden gem that nobody talks about, which of course silly to say but I've seen other runs of the same stature getting talked about.
