I Wanna Know More About...

These are characters/teams that I haven't read much on so I want to learn more about them.

Reading recommendations are greatly appreciated!

A lot of these are Marvel because I read more DC than Marvel, since I got into comics through DC's New 52 and then branched off to Pre-52 stories.

Order is not important. In no order whatsoever.

@shadowswordmaster: thanks for the suggestion! he's always seemed like an awesome villain. I just haven't come around to reading about him. The movies don't do him justice

@batmannflash: They really don't and I think I know why.

For Thanos read Thanos Rising,Infinity Gauntlet , and maybe Thanos Quest.

Read "Books of Doom" for Doctor Doom,

read Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker's Immortal Iron Fist run for Iron Fist, Hellblazer for Constantine, Inhumans by Paul Jenkins for Black Bolt, and Infinity Gauntlet for Thanos.

Thank you again. I've definitely been meaning to get to Infinity Gauntlet but I'm not gonna lie...I have a difficult time reading older comics due to older art which isn't as good as today's :( But hopefully I can read it for the story. I've never read of Thanos Rising, or Thanos Quest, so I'll see. I'm reading Infinity and the teaser at the end of Avengers (the movie) has me interested.

Thanks! I've Immortal Iron Fist, fortunately. It's a good read!

I know Hellblazer is the way to go for Constantine, but it's really really long and idk if it's worth reading all the issues. Do you know which story arcs/runs are the best?

I bought Inhumans by Jenkins a few weeks ago but haven't read it yet.

I highly suggest the New 52 Swamp Thing series (by Scott Snyder) and The Saga Of Swamp Thing (by Alan Moore). I would tell you more to convince you...but seriously, it's Scott Snyder and Alan Moore :P

@rulerofthisuniverse: I've read the New 52 Swamp Thing! I stopped after Snyder left. I have Saga of Swamp Thing on my wishlist, just haven't gotten around to getting it yet. Alan Moore is a legend

@batmannflash: There's a fine line between genius and crazy. Frank Miller's Batman: Year One is genius. Frank Miller's All-Star Batman and Robin is crazy, to say the least..

@rulerofthisuniverse: I wouldn't even say that All Star Batman and Robin was "crazy." Batman was supposed to absolutely insane. The story itself wasn't crazy, I think, just the characters were put to the extreme on purpose.

Anyways, I think that Frank Miller is overrated. Year One is pretty good (but definitely not my favorite Batman story), and Dark Knight Returns was okay. The concept itself was great but I hated the art and thought it was "over-gritty"

@batmannflash: Yeah, I hated TDKR's art, too. That's why I love the animated version. I think Year One was his one true masterpiece, then TDKR was good, then TDSA and ASB&R:TBW were.....well, TDSA and ASB&R:TBW....

@rulerofthisuniverse: I liked the TDKR movie too but the story itself had flaws. Especially Frank Miller's idea that a 60 year old Batman could beat Superman. He portrayed Superman sooo badly. As if Superman was a soldier for the government

@shadowswordmaster: oooh Hickman seems a great fit for Fantastic Four. Millar, Waid are good too. Thanks!

Do you know if Fraction's current F4 series is any good?

@batmannflash: Yeah...and his Green Arrow was a giant facepalm. Guess some people can only write Batman lol.

And when I was listing those bad Frank Miller books, I forgot the worst of them all: Holy Terror. *Shivers*

Green Arrow was stupid and was only there to shoot the Kryptonite arrow, which Superman could of easily saw from a distance that it was Kryponite and dodged it. but whatever

@batmannflash: LOL you are so lucky! The stupidest, most positively racist thing I've ever heard of.

Yeah, there's a million ways Superman could have stopped that. In fairness, he had just gotten hit by a nuke...but still.

These are all cool characters, and here's some of my recommendations for them:

  • For the Anti-Monitor there's Crisis on infinite Earths and the Sinestro Corps War. He also plays a small role in Blackest Night and is the villain o fFirestorm's story in Brightest Day.
  • For Alan Scott there's an elseworlds called The Golden Age which is very good. I actually had no expectations about it but someone recommended it to me when I was looking for good elseworlds and it was amazing, like Watchmen for DC's golden age heroes. Alan doesn't appear that much but he has an important role and you could say he's the Superman of the story.

@jldoom: I'm very interested in The Golden Age. Thanks! I've read Sinestro Corps War, Blackest Night, and Brightest Day, but Firestorm's story in it. I also plan on reading Crisis on Infinite Earths.

@batmannflash: No problem! Another story I'd recommend for the Anti-Monitor is Infinite Crisis, because even though he doesn't appear in it he does have an important influence, plus it's an awesome event.

@batmannflash:

Sorry I got back to you so late bro! For Hellbazer, start with Garth Ennis's run at issue #41 and just keep going. Mike Carrey's run starting from issue #175 is also good.
