Happy Blackest Night Friday! Tony and Jen have survived the big eating holiday and talk about this week's comics. And there's even some disagreements (gasp!). Find out what went down this week in the wonderful world of comics.
man now I both miss Young Justice but HA I bought all 6 volumes on sale today if only WB had at least done it right and put it out on Blu Ray like all self respecting shows should be
@allstarsuperman: It looks like Young Justice but Nightwing was never in that costume (a pity because it's my favourite costume) and Starfire was never in it at all. It's probably photoshopped.

that's what I though, I really want Nightwing to get a spin off from young justice.
Nice podcast. Does anyone think a Young Justice box set will ever be released? I know they have various volumes on DVD but I really want a single set of the entire series. Definitely my favorite cartoon show.
@themantisshrimp: my daughter saw the pic as I was posting and immediately knew this wasn't from the show. She said, "Man, they should've kept the show on. It was like my favorite."
@themantisshrimp: A complete box set is highly unlikely but you can get the Vol1-3 pack on Amazon for cheap and the the final season 1 volume. Season 2 is broken into 2 volumes. I've actually bought some DVD cases that can fit 4 discs into 1 container and seperated it that way. The most annoying part is the utter lack of a Blu Ray release cmon gimme HD!
It's kinda telling that the Beware the Batman Vol1 is only being released on DVD as well.
@g_man If you can't get a guest for the supper massive podcast why don't you use the episode to catch up on questions.
I loved the discussion on the price point for me $3.99 is too much for if it is a BI Weekly book like so many are from Marvel. $3.99 works out to be $5.30NZ and if I want to add one BI weekly I have to drop two other books.
This is also why I read a lot more DC as the books I read tend be $2.99 which is about $4.00 NZ easier to justify on the wallet.
I was totally on board for Black Science all the way up until the last page. I honestly do not feel up for reading a darker version of Sliders in a monthly title. Additionally, I was really looking forward to seeing more of those Frog people.

There's a pro and a con to double shipping. On the one hand, it does mean people have to drop a comic from their pull lists to afford the title however, on the other hand, double shipping means twice the story twice as fast. For a title that you love, this is a good thing, for one that you are only passably interested in, it can be the death knell for the title (as far as you are concerned).

I do love the fact that some books double ship its just at the moment I am reading 30 books a month thanks to Forever: Evil. When I look at book and decide weather or not to cut it the first thing I look at is the price point. The extra 30 cents is what kills it for me stupid exchange rate why can't you be an even number.
@g_man, as far as the Hawkeye "selfie" goes, I think Kate was taking a picture of herself with the cuts and bruises right after the accident, and probably took one of him too. iPhones have the front camera too!
I thought the same thing about the "selfie" first, but after looking back at it, I think that's what happened.
@g_man, @missj: I missed having you on podcast Jen, so this was awesome! By the way, I think your mashed potatoes could survive without refrigeration if it was less than 24 hours that been out. I'm glad Tony you didn't really spoiled much for comic books today cause sadly I'm way behind. :-( I'm holding out my judgements of what's going on in Uncanny Avengers because it feels misleading and looks like it won't be permanent. So I will wait until the next issue. I also not liking how many times Wonderman has died and comeback so often. >:-( It really does suck that price point is raising up at this moment, but I guess we can't blame them if the price of paper maybe has gone up? Luckily, I know you don't like this method Tony, Me and my boyfriend share between comic books. I guess it's a good thing I live with someone who loves comics as much as me and it's convenient to not break the bank all the time. The only thing that bothers me is that the price is still the same for digital when it doesn't cost much to put it up digitally. Maybe they should lower the price a bit so more people can move digitally to not spend too much money on making prints. The only problem I'm having with Marvel's renumbering is not being able to tell what's being cancelled or not. I won't really be confused on the numbering and maybe it's establishes that its a new arc or season that can help out the new readers. And man I'm gonna miss FF, it was pretty funny this week.
@liveforever: You're probably right, it does look like she meant to take a picture of herself in bruises but she accidentally took a picture of him. At first I thought the term was used incorrectly, but then I looked back at what you mentioned and it seems about right.
Just in case if anyone is wondering about the Young Justice picture. It's a photoshopped picture that the Young Justice animator made replacing a Nightwing and Zantana picture with old school Nightwing and Starfire. Here's the link, I found the info from. http://superheroshows.blogspot.com/2012/06/is-starfire-coming-to-young-justice.html
Is that all you guys had to say about Catwoman? I guess I'm just making a bigger deal out of it because I really liked this issue of Catwoman.
Totally agree with Tony about the numbering. The large numbers aren't a problem, it's just that new readers need to know where/when is the best jumping on point. They should put which part/chapter of the arc on the cover.
Also, from my experience, with the New 52, DC has streamlined their organisation of their trades, so it's much easier to know where to start: Just pick a title and start with Vol. 1.
Sweet my question totally got answered! So @g_man I am alive and visit the site daily I just never post anything?
But I have to disagree with Jen, Geoff Johns New 52 writing has been great? He has been ending his epic Green Lantern run with an awesomely epic ending while at the same time making a character everyone made fun of (Aquaman) into one of the best New 52 books for over 2 years? Then he wrote pretty good JL and JLA runs that led into "Forever Evil" which has been pretty fantastic so far? There is no malice in my argument towards Jen I just could not disagree more
But love the podcast and hopefully @g_man, Cory and Jen can combine forces for a podcast very soon!
@g_man Haha thanks for answering my nightwing question! I really hope they give some sort of explanation for the red (hmm maybe it signifies connection to Animal Man)
Renumbering would work if the publisher was consistent with it. If each year was essentially a volume then I could be okay with each series resetting to #1 at the start of a new year. Either that or do what Marvel is doing for some of their series and putting #1 of 5 (Insert Arc Name) at the top of the book, while keeping the issue number in the bottom right corner. There just needs to be an easier way for new readers to realize that, for example, Batman 26 isn't necessarily the 26th issue in a story.
I disagree that mini series have to be more than four issues, some of the original DC and Marvel minis were tight three and four parters - the longer they get, the more they sprawl. Plus, we've had a few examples in the last few years of the Big Two cutting off series before the end (All-Winners Squad, Big Ten) - the shorter they are, the more likely it is we'll get the announced story.
Tony, how about retiring the 'I don't know how I feel about' phrase, because when you use it, it seems obvious you mean you're not keen on something? Just put those opinions out there!

That Thor issue is pretty much the perfect solution. It clearly highlights what what part in the story this issue is, while keeping the regular issue numbering as well.
As regards the renumbering question, I'm withTony, give me the continuity of big numbers. Surely it's easier to look for the beginning of a creator's run if it's, say, Fantastic Four #329 than if it's #1 ... which #1 is the question, there've been so many volumes..
wow, cacofony REALLY sucks, I was all excited about it when I first heard about it and it made me regret spending my money on it. I honestly am willing to give Kevin Smith a ONE LAST chance, what do you guys reserve to be his ONE good piece of work? Also, for the new podcast Im honestly waiting for you guys to talk about what you think of the wonder woman casting and what would you like to see in the movie!
