    Phoenix Force

Character » Phoenix Force appears in 1616 issues.

A powerful cosmic entity, an immortal being representing the Life-Death-Rebirth cycle, all current and future life, and is the nexus of all psychic energy ever to have existed, to exist or will exist. It has, at times, chosen a host to live within, granting the vessel nigh-omnipotent power. It has the power to create or destroy anything, or everything. The Phoenix has had various hosts, but the most well known and frequent host is the mortal mutant Jean Grey.

    10/05/10What If? Phoenix(Blog) (Forum)Phoenix Force.WUBI #12.

We all have trade paperback (TPB) collections we'd like to see. Here's one of mine:

    Proposed Title:What If? Phoenix.
    Alternate Title:Phoenix: What If?.
    Collecting 10 Issues:
    Covers: (click to enlarge)
TPB Cover: Original Cover or Phoenix: The Untold Story (1984)
TPB Cover: Original Cover or Phoenix: The Untold Story (1984)

Phoenix: The Untold Story is an alternate ending to The Dark Phoenix Saga, where Jean Grey lived, and includes interviews with the creative team. I'd love to see it included in this collection. The X-Men/ Titans crossover is just for kicks and giggles, because What IfDarkseid and Dark Phoenix teamed up against the universe? What If? Rise... is there because it asks "What if Vulcan gained the power of the Phoenix?" Guardians of the Galaxy #9-11 is the "World of Mutants" storyline, which ends with the birth of a new Phoenix, so I put that in there, because Guardians was set in an alternate future, so was basically an ongoing What If. It also rounds the TPB out to a nice 10 issues.

For the cover, I don't really like any of the What If? covers, so I'd make a rare departure here from my rule of not using one-shot covers for TPB covers, and go with the cover of Phoenix: The Untold Story. Better though: an original cover of Phoenix (preferably Dark Phoenix) with the Phoenix Effect around her.

Would you buy it? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.

@THUNDERBOLT30: Thanks!  I have a bunch of What If's, but I'd like to see some character specific collections.  Sometimes, I like the What If, Elseworlds and crossovers better than I do the in-continuity stuff.  Sometimes. ;)

@wolfman_beast:Untold Story was really cool when it came out, because it was one of the first times (outside of hard to get fanzines) that we were allowed a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes processes of comics.  It was an alternate ending to Dark Phoenix Saga (Jean lives - shocker), but also interviews with the creators, and that was incredibly interesting to me then.  Personally, I still like that kind of thing.  I like old issues of Amazing Heroes for interviews about storylines as they were happening or just before - it's kind of cool to see what they were thinking then.

@The Dark Huntress said: "YES "

Thanks, DH.  I've always wanted to make a woman scream "YES."  ...I have no idea what that means. ;)

@Shoe: Thanks, Shoe. Phoenix: The Untold Story was awesome. In my area at least, it seems like the comic shops always manage to have one or two if you're looking for it, and usually for no more than $5. Of course, I haven't looked for one recently...
