A funeral procession, on New Genesis, carries the fallen Lonar to the Source Wall. Lonar's essence is returned to the Source. The ritual ceremony over, Orion's Mother Box alerts him to danger on Earth. Orion journeys to the Strategic Air Command base, in New Mexico, finding it under attack from Titan, the World-Shaker. Titan lays waste to the air base, as he searches for Brigadier General Maxwell Torch. Orion attacks, but Titan beats him back with the power of his Rune Rod. Orion finds Torch hysterically cowering behind several fuel drums. A swing of the Rune Rod cracks open the barrels, flooding the battleground with fuel. Orion ignites the fuel. Titan uses the Omega Effect to teleport out of the conflagration. Torch's suspicion of Orion melts away in the face of his rescue. The two men adjourn to a private office, where Orion explains the situation to Torch. Orion speaks of the war between New Genesis and Apokolips. Orion also reveals that Torch's mind contains one-sixth of the Anti-Life Equation, a formula Darkseid covets. Orion receives a signal from his Mother Box, summoning him to Metropolis. Darkseid watches from afar, with Gargon, and the kidnapped Esak. Titan reports to Darkseid, who is pleased that his machinations proceed apace.

Orion arrives in Metropolis, meeting up with private investigator, Dave Lincoln, Claudia Shane, and Jezebelle Of The Fiery Eyes. Shane and Lincoln excuse themselves to offer the New Gods privacy. Joining their Mother Boxes together, they receive a message from Izaya, the High-Father of the New Gods. According to Lucifar, Esak is being held at the Happy Land Amusement Park, a former base of operations for Desaad. Orion and Jezebelle Of The Fiery Eyes find Happy Land abandoned, and in ruins. Almost immediately they are attacked by Parademons. After a brief skirmish, the New Gods continue their exploration of the dilapidated amusement park. Information culled from one of the beaten Parademons leads them to Desaad's former nerve center. There, they are attacked by a giant version of one of Doctor Bedlam's Animates. Their combined powers reduce the Animate to slag. It becomes readily apparent that no one has visited Desaad's laboratories in some time. Orion realizes that he has been purposefully led away from Torch. At that very moment, back at the Strategic Air Command base, Titan has come for Torch.
