The concept of Symmetry, and How this Relates to Our Heroes

Humans have always found symmetry appealing, and we have always wondered why. One of the first recorded accounts of someone trying to answer this question was the Greek philosopher Plato. Plato came up with the concept of “Golden Proportions”. While these proportions were not biologically correct, it was still showing humans interest in the subject of beauty and symmetry. Not only do humans mentally like symmetry, but naturally the human body, for the most part is symmetrical. We can go back to a more natural human instinct of how more symmetrical beings are better for mating. This is not the direction I necessarily want to guide your thoughts to. The thought I would like to bring your attention to is much more obvious thing, almost all heroes are completely symmetrical. From their outfits to their hair, the Green Lantern’s ring is pushing the envelope, next to Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Likes wise the villains seem to lack this symmetry. Examples of this our Cheshire, Harley, Quinn, and Killer Croc, I am not saying these villains are by human standards are ugly, except perhaps Killer Croc. I was just pointing out that these villains lack the order of symmetry. We find symmetry to represent togetherness and beauty, so of course this could easily be associated with our super heroes. I highly doubt this symmetry was intentional, but naturally like I said earlier humans like symmetry and we probably associate this sense of perfection, with more aspects of society more than we ever intended, such as in buildings (the White House is a perfect situation: this is just another example of how power and togetherness is shown through symmetry) and also in both our heroes clothes and physical appearances. I find it incredible how much we read into physichal attributes and such even when we do not realize it. Now I am just rambling. To end this all, We as humans Idealize perfection and flawlessness both inside and out, while we are unaware of how much we stress this subject, it can be and is shown in many aspects of our lives. Super Heroes are just one example of the many. This is even more so supported by the lack of symmetry in the Villains of the comic book world. Just some food for thought…..here are some example pictures. Ramble. Ramble. Ramble. (may fix this rough blog up later, but thought it better to post something than nothing at all ^.^' my ideas may ramble and not be fully formed)
