Coppertone Girl (Homages #59)

Homages to the Coppertone Girl advertisements in chronological order. But first, the original...

The Coppertone Girl has been around since 1959, and yes, their slogan used to be "Don't be a Paleface!" The slogan was a bit of a throwback to Coppertone's original symbol- the profile of a Native American chief. The Coppertone Girl has been used in a variety of ads since then, even being on the side of Coppertone's building.

The original ad artwork was lost in a fire, and the ad agent redrew it using her daughter as the inspiration. About 1965, Jodie Foster made her acting debut at three as the Coppertone Girl in a commercial. (Thank you, Wikipedia.)

A couple of these appear to be fan paintings

And there have been a few imitations and parodies over the years. Some were encouraged by Coppertone, and Jim Carey... probably... was not.

There are a bunch more out there to be found, but they ranged from the "a little too cheeky for this site" to "um, was this in Playboy," and the "aghh! My eyes!"
