I read only a few sporadic issues of a few titles. It is something I had meant to go back and buy up to read one day.

DC and Marvel all white creators making all white characters any where form the 40's to the 60's then slowly peppering in minorities over the next sixty years, mainly as sterotypes. Still predominantly created by white males.

Milestone started in the 90's by four black comic creators. A universe of multicultural characters super-normal and bystander.Created by a number of multi ethnic creators, black , Asian , Cuban , white etc..Went under the same time Marvel went bankrupt and comics were in danger as an industry. Image being the only exception at the time.

If you grew up lily white and that is how you wanna keep it,regardless of quality story and creative characterization, Milestone is probably not your preference, although you probably need Milestone more than anyone else. But if you are tired of seeing stereotypes and issues that smother your community ignored or seeing the character that most resembles you playing second fiddle or getting no airtime, Milestone was the move to make.

If you like the JLU cartoon the primary writer of the show was Dwayne McDuffie the creator owner of Milestone.MIlestone is where Humberto Ramos, Jean Paul Leon, Chriss Cross got their start led by House artist Denys Cowan. It is the origin of Static which was watered down and white washed for the American viewing public in the cartoon Static Shock.

Yeah you ain't gotta like Milestone. But I do.

Right, understood. However, Marvel, DC, ect...may have had sterotypes/hidden bias/ regarding race preference when creating, and maintaining characters in the past, but it was NOT by DESIGN which 'Milestone' was.

Look, most comic companies and their employees are liberal by nature, and certainly not the kind that would have been 'racist'...right?...;0

The Milestone guys we're racist if only in their INTENTION, which was to creat a BLACK world of BLACK heroes, to live and work in BLACK communities. There is nothing inherently wrong with that mind you, it IS a free market system. However, when you analyze business plans, and its product options, such a tact/protocol is DEATH for your product, ESPECIALLY in comic books, where something like 85% of the buyers are white, suburban, kids.

Milestone died an ugly death, and its my contention much of the reason is in what i've written. Then again, personally, I thought the comics were shite, and obviously so did many others...

but enjoy, if YOU like them, that's all that matters...;)

I agree with the fact theat many people didn't support. But your theory about it being racist because creators wanted to see quality characters that repped them more accurately, is like stating its racist for a person who is discriminated against to want equal representation.

So yeah to someone with the opinion that competition is racism Milestone would seem racist. Who would want to read about heroes of color(not just black) when the world was created and maintained by whites and their view of the world is the only pertinent interpretation? Who I ask you would want to see a female genius who can move at supersonic speeds and is Korean but doesn't fit the mold presented by DC or Marvel? Hmmm, I don't know maybe a real live korean girl? Just a theory.

Up with racism,Mr. Ubiquitous onward and upward.;)

@Mr. Ubiquitous: ARE YOU Joking??!! IT WAS GREAT!!! Just because it was an black company doesn't mean anything. There were great stories! Great charactors. There comics were about real people in the world. It was a Treasure in all comic collectors hands. There were more than black super heroes. Look up Milestone on comicvine. There were heroes of every race.As the company use to say: MILESTONE, MORE than just the COLOR!!!
