So, if you've been keeping up, in the last couple of days and weeks, comic book websites have been announcing this HUGE shake up of creative teams at Marvel and at almost every turn, there have been whispers of a relaunch. Seems super scary at first, right? But in the long run, I think this could be exactly what Marvel needs. Tie together some of their continuity, get rid of some things that are no longer working and bring about a fresh take on books. Only thing I have hugeee reserves about are the possible rumor that Bendis is gonna be on UXM.

So, thoughts on the possiblity/likelihood of Marvel doing this?

I really hope that it doesn't happen....while there have been some great stories after DC's relaunch I still feel anger towards them when I think about it

I've said it before in another thread and I'll say it here too.....if you're a new reader and you're having a hard time getting into comics continuity despite the fact that there are hundreds of trades available and websites like ComicVine then you're lazy and you're not trying

I find the thought terrifying. I already drag myself through half of the new 52 titles I read. I really don't want that to be marvel's fate to. :(

While I'm not against the idea of a relaunch, as I agree that I feel this is something Marvel does need, I am worried by some the creative team's that have been rumored...

I was never too keen on the New 52 so I obviously am not liking this all too much.......though the X-Men need a reboot , I feel there are far too many characters floating around to care about...not to mention the 30 Avenger teams they have, 20 Hulks etc.

I can't say if it will be a good or bad idea until Marvel announces everything that will be going on with the relaunch

I'd lean more towards this. I wouldn't mind Marvel relaunching all of their books with new #1's, taking the characters back to their roots while still keeping their current history intact. Though, like for the Avengers, I wouldn't mind them "updating" their origin.

    This!

Kinda do a soft reboot. AvX looks like the perfect opportunity given all the cosmic and mystical forces in play.

I agree. Marvel had too many things going on and the best option would be to clean up whatever continuity errors they have so that way fans wouldn't be so confused about what is really happening in the stories.

As long as its a relaunch and not a reboot I'm good.

I'm still saying this is bull though.

Those creative teams are too conveinent.

Yeah Remender's just gonna be paired with Opena again? Fraction and Larocca aren't gonna leave each other's side? X-Men which just got a new creative team is gonna get another new one? Astonishing Avengers? Yeah, I just don't believe any of it.

Please don't. Marvel is doing fine and I'd rather not see Spider-man go through another unnecessary reboot (BND not the film).

@cattlebattle: Totally agree. X-Men and Avengers need to get trimmed down. Go back to the X-Men teams I cared about.

I don't know that I can properly express myself and remain polite about it. Truthfully. I am sick to death of relaunches and re-boots and renumberings or whatever other damn 'all universe' storyline Marvel is peddling. If Marvel were to come out and say " We're going down to 3 X books; Uncanny, Force & Factor " I would actually welcome that. I would even be fine with them cutting the 10398109483 Avengers money grab titles they're running. 'Uncanny Avengers' ? Seriously ? I would - no euphamism or exaggeration - punch each and every exec I could lay my eyes on. It has nothing to do with being scared of change. There are few things on this mortal plane which command that type of chemical response from yours truly and 'change' is not one of them. And although these are public characters and subject to artistic interpretation on behalf of each of us - how I feel is exactly how Rand would feel about someone cheating and stealing from something sacred every time Marvel gets an itch in their pants. It's absurd. I've blogged about this, groused over dinner and argued with nimrods ad infinitum over Marvel's similarly played out marketing ploys. I was equally furious with DC over the matter. I get it - to keep reading the comics I love they company itself has to maintain a bottom line. Good luck convincing me that the 'generational gap' between the 2 years since Marvel last 'reinvented itself' for the sake of market salience is soooooo great that is necessitates alienating their base demographic once more.

    No Caption Provided

    • "Uncanny Avengers" by Rick Remender and John Cassaday starring a team composed of Captain America, Wolverine and others from the company's two powerhouse franchises battling the mutant-hating Red Skull.
    • "All New X-Men" by Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen realigning the mutant team in the wake of "AvX" as the original five X-Men are mysteriously brought to the present day. This title will launch in November.
    • "Avengers" by Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena, which is light on specific details aside from a roster of 18 heroes in a bi-weekly comic that seems to be Hickman-esque rethinking of the Avengers core mission in the vein of the writer's "Fantastic Four" run.

With the reboot/relaunch/DC-ing of their line I might be able to get into some of Marvel's team books. There is way too much backstory for me to jump into an X-Men comic. Similarly I had no desire to start reading an Avenger comic until Bendis's run had come to an end. Now both groups of books might be accessible to a Marvel Dilettante.
