Actually he is not ''New'' but after his show up in Avengers, it seems that is a ''New'' move for Marvel. More importantly many Marvel fans don't want to see a ''Superman pastiche'' among with Thor & Hulk duo.

    No Caption Provided

First Hyperion (Earth-616) was a villain actually, and ''Squadron Sinister'' was pastiche for ''Justice League'' , therefor Hulk and Thor fought against Hyperion many times.

    Lets see this battles...

    Thor vs. Hyperion

First Thor's hammer has no effect on Hyperion's invulnerability, then Thor uses another way and Hyperion trapped in some bubble... And their second encounter wasundecided due to misunderstanding...

    Hulk vs. Hyperion

Their first encounter was undecided as well, however their second encounter in giant size defenders #4 was concluded. Their physical strengths matches equally, and Hyperion's invulnerability protects him, but his enhanced hearing back fires and Hulk's thunderclap knocks him out.

After these, Original Hyperion somehow encounters with his clone and they fights to the death...

    Hyperion vs. Hyperion

They evenly matches, in the end original one wins...

In another occasion, he fights against Gladiator equally...

    And lastly, in Avengers...

Hulk somehow gets mind alteration from Abyss (more like tempted by contest between Thor), and he beats Thor... (Again)

    No Caption Provided

After Avenger's first failure on Mars, Hyperion joins Cap.'s rescue team, and he matches with Hulk...

    Hulk vs. Hyperion

After Abyss losing his control, fight is left unfinished...

    Another feats of his...

    X-ray vision

Lastly, he destroyed one of the right hand man of Thanos (Corvus) in Infinity #06

And contest between Thor and Hulk, there is another contender joined. Can it be disturbing for fans ? Lets hear some thoughts about Hyperion, will he be permanent in Avengers or not ?

@erkan12 This is really good mate. I think Marvel had big plans for Hyperion since King Hyperion appeared. I would definitely approve any kind of improvement Marvel puts on Hyperion, he barely has any decent feats in Earth 616 and in classic days he was most of times a joke, sparring with Hank Mccoy? Yeah, that's utterly bs.

Anyway, keep things like this going. *2 thumbs up*

@mitran: He didn't forced Hulk to turn back to Banner, when Abyss lost control over Hulk's mind after receiving Thor's lighting, Hulk turned into Banner instantly because he didn't even recall why he was angry in the first place since from the start it was Abyss manipulating his thoughts for him to think Hyperion and Thor were challenging him, after losing control, Hulk also lost motives to be angry.

If anything, what that instance proves is Hyperion can take the hits and keep it going, which is impressive nonetheless.

Hickman's Hyperion is my favorite Hyperion version YET!

But I will admit that there are way too many, it's kind of ridiculous.

One of his clone died (Hyperion II) . I suppose they have to get rid of the 'king' one.

I think one of the reason Hyperion showed up, what would happen if Superman would join the avengers. His powers exactly the same, even his source of power.

I don't think he has a place here in marvel. One of the reasons I liked marvel was cus it didn't have any invunerable heavyhitters like DC. I just don't like the one man team style character in my superheroes and Hyperion is a straight copy of superman.

Sure marvel has some heavy hitters but they are usually bricks with no super flight such as Thing hulk and collossus. Thor is all round powerful but he fights at a good speed not the DC " everything is a blur when these guys are on panel"

Honestly Gladiator could be brought up but he has earned his place in marvel and has been overwhelmed before.

Hyperion just isn't cut out character wise to be a classic like Stan Lee characters and other interesting marvel guys and gals.

Also with his alternate earth craziness it feels like his creator wanted to write DC but got stuck with marvel. "Hmm marvel doesn't have a plain SUPER character. I should change that by adding this crazy powerful superman into the mix with, get this revolution, different morals!!"

I get Hulk was under mind control or whatever, but Hyperion beating him into Banner with a smile on his face is pretty damn impressive. Looks like that's his intended place at least.

Might be worth getting into. I don't really have a favorite heavy hitter from Marvel and the new Hyperion seems interesting. Hope he stays around, as a hero.

Hickman has said before he has big plans with this version of Hyperion with no baggage like the previous versions of him. So I have trust that they will do justice to him in the upcoming years. I'm for one am excited about the potential with him.

Let Hulk rejoin with Captain Universe or give him equipment to fly bring sentry back to life and make a team with Sentry , Hyperion , Thor , and Hulk. They could go on cosmic adventures or they could just be Earth's protectors

    @ghostravage:

I think your right.I remember when Marvel started to showcase the Falcon in it's cartoons I knew then Marvel had something in store for him. It's the same with Hyperion, but I believe he will be an antagonist in an upcoming movie. DC has such a huge mainstream head start on Marvel in regards to their cartoons. Marvel is quickly closing that gap. And it's about time. Marvel has a much better product vs DC characters which even going by the names they have are just ridiculous. The next generation of comic fans will be subjected to a lot of Marvel in the same way as kids and teens from the 80',90's and 00's were subjected to DC. Those DC cartoons are what got those kids into comics to begin with, hence DC always comes out on top on the vine. I was reading a debate on battles about I believe Hulk, Thor ,red Hulk and Hercules vs Superman and people were actually picking Supes. So yea Marvel really needs to showcase on an epic scale. And a great character to do that with is Hyperion

One of Marvel's better qualities was they were set up differently. The lack of archetype reflection of one of the best characters in comics was a plus for them. The absence of such characters gave the universe a certain flavor. A flavor that is now absent which I greatly miss.

The Hyperion of Mark Gruenwald's 1985 Squadron Supreme mini-series will always remain dear to my heart.

That mini-series proved that, when it wants to do so, Marvel can show a level of class that DC never aims for. When DC parodies Marvel characters or teams, it almost always mocks them (remember when Guy Gardner tricked a parody of Starbrand into burning off his own foot?), but when Marvel parodied the Justice League, they did so with affection and style!

@masterkungfu: Hyperion is Marvel's earliest Superman Analog (1969).

He has been killed off with Thor in Avengers

King Hyperion will be making a return in Secret Wars "Squadron Sinister" series though, woohoooooo
