I created this thread as part of a request and a sequel to the 10 Most Power Demons.. Now we focus on gods.. But first, we must establish the definition of a god in marvel standards.. Several characters in many stories have been referred to as gods.. Generally, however, only those belonging to two specific types are considered to be the "true" gods.. Note that none of these beings are divine in the commonly understood sense, but are rather simply powerful supernatural beings.. Other worlds besides Earth also have their own gods, with different origins..

Many Marvel characters has been described as gods or god-like.. Some of the examples are the Octessence.. These beings individually are powerful, but their definition and characteristics are a bit vague since these beings share characteristics with gods as well as demons.. Others include Dormammu and his sister Umar, who despite their god-like powers still doesn't fit the conventional description of a god.. The Eternals are also-god-like beings, but their point of origin does not include them in the rosters of gods..

My criteria for this list is 1.) The character must be part of a Mythology which also considers them as divine beings.. 2.) The character must have a solid or a distinct group of worshipers who view them as divine creatures.. There are tons of characters to consider and coming up with this list is really tough.. Anyways, here are the 10 Most Powerful Gods, well at-least in my opinion.. It also must be noted that these characters are based on their standard power levels with no enhancements or ret-cons, just their basic power levels as the gods in Earth's mythology..

#10 - THOR, the Asgardian God of Thunder, Master of Storm and Lord of the Living Lightning

    No Caption Provided
Thor is the blood-son of the Asgardian skyfather Odin and the primeval Earth goddess Gaea. He possess vast physical strength as well as the power over the elements.. Odin sought to father a son whose power would derive from Earth as well as Asgard, and hence he sought to mate with Jord (an incarnation of the Elder goddess Gaea).. Odin created a cave in Norway where Jord gave birth to Thor.. Thor has since then fought in the side of good alongside the Avengers and has been since then one of the most powerful champions of good in the universe..

Thor is one of Marvel's most popular character.. His power and fame is known throughout the world.. He is physically one of the most powerful beings on Earth and possibly even beyond.. His power over the elements are also second to none and has been shown to be able to stand against some of the most powerful beings in Marvel.. But despite his powers and fame, i can only give Thor the tenth spot on this list..

    #09 - BAST, the Panther God/dess

    No Caption Provided
Bast the offspring of Atum, child of the Elder goddess Gaea and the Demiurge, the embodiment of Earth's life force.. One of the eldest of the Ennead, as early as 10000 BC Bast was worshiped as a panther god, granting power to worshipers and descendants.. Bast is most known as the guardian and patron god of Wakanda and the Black Panther..

Bast is believed to be extremely powerful, though he/she typically acts through surrogates or possesses and grants power to others (usually some degree of superhuman strength, speed, agility, senses, etc.).. Each of the Black Panther's is connected to Bast and derives power from his/her support.. Bast typically appears most commonly as an immense black panther or a humanoid panther, and Bast has both male and female forms.. Empowered by the sun, Bast is one of the most powerful of the Ennead, possessing scales of magical power beyond human ability to fathom, overwhelming beings as great as the Shadow King and the Hell-Lord Mephisto..

As a god with vast powers and a noble spirit, bast takes the 9th place in this list..

#08. SETH, the Egyptian God of Death

    No Caption Provided
Seth is the brother of Osiris, and has long warred against his fellow deities.. At some point after Vanir adventurers had molded the empire of Egypt out of what in the Hyborian Age had been Stygia, Seth impersonated the Elder God Set and stole his worshipers which greatly angered the Elder God.. Much later, Seth plotted to invade Asgard. When it was ready, Seth directed his invasion force to attack Asgard..

Seth is often mistaken for the Elder God Set, though not as powerful as the other, Seth himself possess power than could at-least rival that of Odin.. It was said that the battle between him and Odin shook that very fabric of the multiverse.. As the god of death, Seth also possess the power over life and death..  Seth is said to be in the scale of power has been depicted as rivalling that of Odin, and possibly as capable of destroying entire galaxies..

With respectable feats that backs up his name, Seth takes the 8th place..

#07. CRONUS, King of the Titans

    No Caption Provided
Cronus is the son of the sky god Ouranus and the primeval Earth goddess Gaea, and the father of Zeus, Lord of Olympus.. When Ouranos banished his children, the cyclopes and centimanes, to the neither world of Tartarus, the vengeance Gaea urged the Titans to attack him.. Coveting his father's power, Cronus, convinced the reluctant Titans to ambush Ouranos in his sleep.. Cronus delivered the killing wound to Ouranos with his sickle (a gift from Gaea) and became the Titans' leader and the new Olympian Sky Father.. However, the dying Ouranos prophesied Cronus would likewise be dethroned by his own children.. To prevent this prophesy from becoming a reality, Cronus consumed his children upon birth. Appalled, Rhea, his wife and sister, concealed her sixth pregnancy and birth Zeus on Earth. Zeus poisoned Cronus to disgorge his siblings and he freed the cyclopes and centimanes from Tartus, thus leading to their participation in the 10-year war against the Titans. As the centimanes defeated Cronus’ war chief Atlas and his Titan army. Zeus and his brothers defeated Cronus and confined him and most of his allies to Tartarus.

Cronus is the most powerful of the Titans and possesses great physical strength and the ability to wield mystic energy to a yet unidentified degree.. As such, the King ot the Titans takes the 7th spot on the list..

#06. ZEUS, God of Thunder and Lord of Olympus

    No Caption Provided
Zeus was the youngest son of Cronus, ruler of the superhuman extradimensional race of Titans, and his wife, the Titaness Rhea.. After reaching adulthood this child, Zeus, freed his siblings Demeter, Hera, Poseidon, Pluto and Vesta from Hades and led the war against their father, a war they would eventually win.. Zeus imprisoned most of the surviving Titans in Hades and set himself up as ruler of Olympus, taking his sister Hera as his queen.. Zeus ruled a peaceful Olympus for centuries while he and his siblings populated the realm through interbreeding with humans, extradimensionals, Titans, and whatever else caught their fancy.. Select mortals or aliens were occasionally added to the pantheon as well, sometimes further empowered by Zeus.. He is also the father of many gods such Ares, Athena and Hercules..

Zeus is the most powerful of the Olympian gods and posseses a scale of power at-least equal to that of Odin and Dormammu.. He controls and wields the forces of the elements and is off sufficient power to destroy galaxies..

    #05. ODIN, Lord of Asgard

    No Caption Provided
Odin was the son of Bor and the Frost Giantess Bestia, Odin pined for the day he would ascend to his father's place as leader of the gods.. When time-traveling god of evil Loki arrived from the future and transformed Bor into snow, Odin claimed his father was dead and assume rule over his lands alongside his brothers Vili and Ve.. The three brothers returned to their father's kingdom of Asgard, which had become home of the gods. Upon the apparent death's of his brothers at the hands of the fire-demon Surtur, Odin absorbed their life essences, increasing his own power (the "Odinpower").. Assuming sole rule of Asgard, he sought out the primordial Earth Mother Gaea (known to the Asgardians as "Jord"), and siren to the thunder god Thor, who was brought to Asgard to be raised..

Odin is one of the most powerful of Earth gods, who at his prime possess greater power than any god on Earth except that of the Elder Gods.. Odin possesses power said to be greater than that of the demon Mephisto and rivals that of Dormammu.. He is said to possess power enough to destroy galaxies and his death was felt throughout creation.. With such power, i know no one would question why Odin is included in the list..

#04. ATUM, God of the Sun and Devourer of Gods

    No Caption Provided
Atum is the offspring of two primordial beings, born millions of years in an otherwise barren and prehistoric Earth.. Gaea, also known as Mother Nature, had refused to participate with her fellow Elder Gods who, at this time, ran rampant over the Earth in civil war, causing death and degeneration.. Gaea called upon the Demiurge, the physical manifestation of the potential life-force of Earth and source of Gaea herself, in order that it might engender within Gaea a new kind of being.. Atum arose from within Gaea fully formed and in full possession of his powers.. Wielding the powers of the sun itself, Atum attacked and began to slay the elder gods, who at this time degenerated themselves into demons.. As he killed them, he absorbed their essences, becoming the Demogorge.. Eventually, Demogorge slew and absorbed all the demons, save for Chthon and Set, who escaped into other dimensions.. After that he had accomplished his mission, Demogorge reverted to Atum and flew upward where he merged with the sun itself.. Later on, Atum sired the Egyptian deities by himself..

Atum is one of the most powerful gods in existence.. Being the one who destroyed the Elder Gods themselves, Atum's power is quite undeniable.. The reason why he is not on the top of the list is because of the nature of his power.. Without becoming the Demogorge, Atum's power is still greater than that of most gods on earth, but still comes short compare to the Elder Gods who is a source of near limitless powers themselves..

#03. AMATSU-MIKABOSHI, Japanese God of Evil and Darkness

    No Caption Provided
Billions of years ago, the Shinto gods Izanagi and Izanami ventured into a formless world that was dominated by a dark, primordial void where the ancient force of nature known as Amatsu-Mikaboshi existed and reigned alone.. The divine couple began to populate the world with living creatures as well as lesser Amatsu-Kami who later came to be worshipped as gods by the inhabitants of Japan, which enraged Mikaboshi.. His attempts to topple the fledgling Amatsu-Kami pantheon were foiled, and Mikaboshi was force to descend to the netherworld of Yomi, where he remained for centuries..

Mikaboshi is perhaps the most feared god in this list.. Later on, his origins was ret-con and was revealed that he is the Chaos King, the embodiment of the darkness and void that existed before creation itself.. His oldest and greatest enemy was the Elder Goddess Gaea, who was said to be the first being to have sprung from his chaos..

Mikaboshi could have probably took the #1 spot if we consider his new incarnation, but since that is not the case, he only takes the 3rd place.. But if we consider his power at its fullest, he would certainly top the list..

#2. GAEA, the primeval goddess of the Earth, mother of all pantheons and the spirit of life and renewal..

    No Caption Provided
Gaea was one of the Elder Gods who materialized on Earth billions of years ago, way before the appearance of other sentient life.. Kind by nature, she proclaimed herself as the guardian of the merging life and promise to protect them.. She was the only Elder God that did not participate in the mas murder of her siblings.. In order to protect the growing life, she called for the Demiurge and together they spawned Atum, who then destroyed the demonic Elder Gods.. Gaea then infused her essence on Earth, thus becoming one with the planet.. She is the mother of all the new race of gods as well as the blood-mother of the thunder god Thor.. Gaea has a deep rivalry with her brother Set, as he seeks to destroy and devour all life, as Gaea protects and nourishes them..

Gaea being an Elder God possesses power on a scale beyond other gods on Earth.. She alone possess the power to banish the dreaded Dormammu against his will and even directed opposition to the avatar of the cosmic Oblivion.. She even possess power to halt the judgement of the Celestials and make them reconsider.. Gaea is also revealed to be the fountainhead of all life and and creation in the Multiverse.. with such power, she certainly deserves the second spot on the list..

#1. OSHTUR, Bright Lady of the Dawn and Goddess of the Eastern Star

    No Caption Provided
Oshtur is an Elder Goddess, born from the Demiurge and sister to Gaea, Set and Chthon. Before the degeneration of most of the Elder Gods into demons, she left Earth, took to the stars and became the Goddess of the Skies.. One day, Oshtur was watching children play and she saw a blind child. Despite his disability, the child enjoyed life and managed to smile. This touched the heart of the Sky Goddess, and a single tear fell down from her eyes. Being the Goddess of the Mind and Logic, emotions are unusual to Oshtur.. The tear from her eyes gave is what spawned Agamotto. She left and later instructed Agamotto to take the path of magic.. Oshtur in her travels met Hoggoth, and with him and her son Agamotto, they formed the eternal Vishanti and swore to protect the universe from any mystic threats.. She also created the Book of the Vishanti as the opposing power to the Darkhold, created by her brother Chthon..

Oshtur tops the list because she, without any enchantments, is the most powerful of all known Earth gods.. Her omnipotence is often claimed by sorcerers.. she alone is of sufficient power to rival her brother Chthon, who's mere presence threatens the entire universe.. She survives in legend as the "Virgin Goddess", creator of angels, lady of the dawn with unidentified connection with the Judeo-Christian God and the Virgin Mary..

hope you guys like my list.. again, this list is based on my opinion.. you have have comments and opinions you want to share, feel free to do so.. thank you.. ^_^

@ebuchanan: And Seth isn't a death god (or particularly associated with snakes), and Thor isn't blond, etc..there are some obvious deviations from the myths but it's been stated that Atum/Demogorge was the being that the Egyptians in the Marvel Universe identified and worshiped as Ra.

    @ebuchanan:
Bast. The Egyptian goddess of cats. Who, in Marvel, happens to be Wakanda's main deity and now prefers to assume the form of a panther instead of a house cat.
Atum. Both in real world mythology and in Marvel, Atum/Ammon Ra is the ancestor of most of the Egyptian gods and associated with the sun. Additionally, he fights Set/Apophis, a snake monster.
Both were loosely based on figures from real life mythology, hence, not completely made up.

@ebuchanan: Demogorge and Panther God are still meant to be the Marvel Universe counterparts to their mythological namesakes.  Or do you know of any other, more closely adapted god-characters named Bast(et) or Atum/Amun/Ra in the MU?

    your'e very much welcome..

@ebuchanan: thank you.. but you see, these characters are all based on actual mythological characters.. Marvel only gave them a twist in the use of their character in their publication..

Bast is the Cat Goddess worshiped in Egypt.. Marvel now uses her as the Panther God which is the patron of Wakanda but is still worshiped as its original namesake in Egypt..

    No Caption Provided

Atum is known as Atum-Ra or Amun-Ra, the creator of the gods of Egypt..

    No Caption Provided

the same can be said of Oshtur.. Oshtur is based on the goddess Eostre or Ostara in pagan belief.. her feast is known as the Feast of Ostara.. she was then later known as Ostra Brama.. her worshiped was later absorbed into Christianity, her feast becoming known as Easter and herself being the Virgin Mary..

    No Caption Provided

Marvel Comics may not be portraying them as 100% as they are in mythology, and same can be said with other gods in Marvel.. the thing is, they are not characters who were just made up by writers.. they are based on our mythology..

Galactus and Eternity are not gods because they are not worshipped.

Adding the LT and OAA would be kinda boring :)

Eternity, Living Tribunal are cosmic abstracts.. same goes with Galactus.. they are not Gods in the definition of the word.. plus, they don't have worshipers..

and adding TOAA on the list would kinda loose it's twist, cause he is already a given.. the list includes the Gods of Mythology..
