Marvel Zombies Origins
I know some people are going to disagree with me on this for sure... most people that think the whole Marvel Zombies thing has run it's course and we should move on. Personally I really liked this issue, even though it was far from perfect.
While this is a prequel, it manages to tie together elements from the original Marvel Zombies mini series, the current Marvel Zombies Vs Army of Darkness mini series and also their first appearance back in Ultimate Fantastic Four. If it does all that it can't be all bad right? Well the thing is that most of what this issue explains, are things that we already knew from before... it's just we hadn't seen them yet. There is one revelation in the book however that is kinda major, but not explained. It's simply mentioned in passing, and leaves the reader wanting to know so much more. I'm guessing this will be explored more in the upcoming mini-series. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that it has to do with how everything really started.
While I really liked Sean Phillips artwork in the original mini-series, here it felt very sloppy in some places. Maybe it was like that in the original as well, but for some reason I don't remember it that way (and I'm too lazy to check). Some panels are just perfect, while others feel very rushed to the point of it being distracting.
While the casual reader could probably go without reading this, the Marvel Zombies fans will see this as a must have. Even though there is only one major revelation in the book that will probably be explored further in the mini series, it still ties everything together even though it's all things we practically already knew.
