An all star athlete who develops supernatural powers on live TV, in the near, war-torn future. With the emergence of her powers, her futures becomes unclear and her career, love, and safety of her family are at stake.
Another neat trick she is capable of is switching the color of her skin from snow-white, green, red, to exotic-brown. Not quite sure how she does it? Maybe we'll find out later she's some sort of shape-shifter or color-shifter at the very least. Well, maybe her marketing team just used some Photoshop. Last not least, she seems to be related to the Haitian from the TV series Heroes (bring it back!) as people, when being around her or just watching her on television, forget about their troubles as well as all the crime and wars in the world.
More seriously, I believe, (even Rick James already knew) she's a Super Freak!
At the end of issue #2 she decides to escape from the trouble and just fly away like Superman. So far it is revealed she is quick, very powerful, and can fly. Besides, she hears the trigger of a revolver in the middle of a noisy crowd cheering for her (in issue #1).
@RedQueen: After re-reading the second issues im pretty sure Brian Wood is doing a comparison between superheroes and sports stars. And Mara is gonna be Superman, or Wonder Woman to be gender appropriate.
