    Magnets..how do they work?

I gotta tell you...this one is a true crap turd of a comic book. First of all, it does not contribute anything to the story of Magneto. I kind of get the feeling it got made because of the coming period piece movie and Chaykin doing a nostalgia take on Magneto coming to New York in...I dont know...fifties/sixties...seemed like a semi good idea.

    Well, it was not.

I mean as a kinda origin or goming of age story, it is a huge leap from Grek Pak`s Magneto Testament´s child living in ghetto during Holocaust to this guy. I dont know why, but for some reason Chaykin has drawn Magneto grinning in almost every panel, maybe his past was so happy and future looking so good that he just cant stop smiling.

And the story...or should I say what story? Magneto comes to Brooklyn, hits on beatnikish Cassandra and talks a lot of crap about nothing. Oh yeah, let´s not forget the stock monster. Wow! All in all, it is more of a lame episode of Mad Men with some mutant shit thrown into it than comic of X-men mythos.

Howard Chaykin for me is kinda aquiered taste and as a artist and writer (especialy as an writer) I honestly cant say if I like him, or if I really really dont like him. This one does not make me like him, but the jury is still out (and has been for years)...

Magneto's one of those cases where a "villain" should really have an on-going series.  He has a rich history, an extremely complex moral compass, and a unique personality that could make him an interesting character to follow around from month to month.  Unfortunately, such a thing we many never see, but this one-shot written and drawn by Howard Chaykin has potential.  Is it squandered, or does the "MASTER OF MAGNET" (reference...) get a good self-contained story here?  Ambitious Youth This is a...
