Sean and Edsel mount a daring rescue of Kevin after defeating Piet Grackleflint. During their battle above the pit, Lazlo Grackleflint, the only one who can sense The Fisher King is knocked in. The Umbra Sprite has to stop the battle long enough to go in after him, allowing the heroes a chance to escape. On the way out of the Styx, Kevin is spurred by Emil Grackleflint.
In the back-up Grendel story, Stacy Palumbo, having found out that Hunter Rose is Grendel, goes out to do research on exactly what kind of person Grendel is, and finds out that he is a malicious crimelord. Rose gets her a nanny, since becomes preoccupied with his new criminal empire. Stacy pushes her off a pier and she drowns. Then she finds Hunter's safe and cracks it over a period of weeks. Her depression lifts with the certainty of action. She finds evidence in the safe that Grendel killed her Uncle Barry.
