    A bloody Mess

If you are one of the few who has read Lost Dogs then, you are not alone, because you know I did. If you haven't read it, don't worry, I've been hearing things about its re-release one day in Top Shelf.  Can't give you a date, but if I sell you on this book, it is worth the wait.

Lost Dogs is a story of a man who had all he needed.  A man who loved his family.  Like all good stories, you need love and you need conflict.  The love is set up and we really feel for this "Sailor", our hero of the book.  We see him stripped of everything, which is a drastic change from Essex County's more family friendly story.

I feel Jeff Lemire gets to the heart of human hate and lust in this book.  The lust of life and the lust to take it.

My favorite seen is the marionette seen.  Silent, but extremely affective.  The use of mere puppets alone he expresses a lot of the human condition.   I won't spoil the ending, but it works for me.  It brings us back to the meaning of to live.  What drives us to live and without that drive in our lives are we just lifeless puppets moving around not really living?   Thank You Jeff, Thank You.

The only weakness is the lettering first and foremost, I found myself trying hard to read some of the words because of the running of the ink. The second weakness is the art, it is still early in his career and has gotten a lot better.  Both "flaws" do not take away much from the story.  It is captivating.  I look forward to the future re-release with the fixed lettering and maybe, hopefully additional.

I gave this book a 4 out of 5.  This is the book that got me to be a fan of Jeff Lemire.  Check out his other work of Sweet Tooth and Essex County if you haven't followed his work.  The man love the comic medium and you can see the love in his work.

    *Cheers*
