Originally thought to be chosen by chance, it was later revealed that Ganthet chose Kyle Rayner because he had the ability to harness the powers of the emotional spectrum. Once the Torchbearer of the Green Lantern Corps, Kyle graduated to the role Ganthet had intended for him: the White Lantern. After the White Ring is separated into seven rings, Kyle returns to being a Green Lantern Corpsman.
what's simon baz been up to. They gave him some random feat of healing someone sick on the verge of death and then never touch up on his potential again.

I asked that question the other day but couldn't find much.
He's supposed to be in Green Lantern Corps: Edge of Oblivion and I think he's in some of the GLC Lost Army (haven't read all of it yet). He was also in the A.R.G.U.S. JLA book but it didn't last very long.
At one point, he was partnered up with B'dg and protecting Hal's family on Earth while Jordan was Corps leader. I think he deserves his own miniseries.
@theexile285 Kyle Rayner is not actually dead. He was kidnapped by the Omega Men, filmed being "executed" by them, and is now part of their plan. That may not sound that awesome but, if you read Tom King's Omega Men, you'll realize how fantastic the series is. I don't want to spoil anything but the series has just these amazing moments that really prove that Kyle Rayner is one of the greatest Green Lanterns and quite possibly one of the greatest superheroes of all time. Couldn't recommend it more.
Also, side note, is your account name a reference to the Star Wars video game Knights of the Old Republic II?
