I think Both batman and Superman should be co-leaders of the team because both have half of the qualities that makes a good leader.
Justice League of America
Team » Justice League of America appears in 3324 issues.
The Justice League (also known as the Justice League of America or the JLA) is a team comprised of the premier heroes of the DC Universe.
who should lead the justice league?
All the members of the Justice League are decent leaders. Although Flash and Hal Jordan don't really have good track records to back it up.
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and Martian Manhunter have all shown strong leadership qualities.
I think it comes down to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
If I had to pick someone it would probably be Batman or Aquaman based on their current new 52 credentials. Although I always felt like Superman was the leader of the Justice League pre new 52
I'd like to see Aquaman lead as some others have mentioned. From the people listed I agree with everyone who says that Superman is the symbolic leader and Batman is the strategist. Hal Jordan is my favorite character but I have never seen him as a leader. He is impulsive and frequently reckless.

Honestly, I know it will never happen, I think Wonder Woman should. She has experience leading people into battle so she definitely has the tactical mind to do so and also she would have to have a good sense of how to raise moral or keep the team focused as a fighting force again due to her experience with the amazons. So she gets my vote.
Mine too. My thoughts exactly.

Wonder Woman.
Would vote for Aquaman, but he's not listed.
Aquaman would have as much leadership experience as Wonder Woman

Superman or wonder women.
Wonder Woman.
If the teams needed to split, Wonder Woman could lead one team while Superman heads the other. Given that they both have similar power sets this would balance out each group. Batman & Cyborg can split intel & security bypass details then Flash and Aquaman can fill special assignments geared to their power sets and Green Lantern can maintain eye in the sky surveillance until the action starts . . . .
Dick Grayson would be an excellent leader. Problem is, he's a little two young to be bossing around the big league-rs. It'd just seem weird.
Anyway, Batman already does a great job. In my opinion, Batman is basically the leader without ever formerly announcing it. Not even really being elected either. It's just he naturally takes charge of things and everyone naturally accepts it because he's just good at it. Sure, it may get on some others' nerves, especially the stubborn ones but they all know Batman is the man.
Now, I know all you Superman fans are raging at me but lets face it, Supes is just the face of the League, both in-universe and to the fandom. To the people, Superman is the main man because he is all powerful and such as well as the... hm... boyscout. He is also the most famous. The first Superhero if you will. Yeah, there are times when SUperman is actually taking charge but Batman is the natural leader. The secret leader really.

Aquaman. It's time for change.
Barring Superman, I wouldn't mind Aquaman having a go at leading the JL, his DCNU credentials are pretty impressive in the leadership capacity.
He only ruled 70% of the planet. I'm sure he can handle a small group better than a guy who's main problem is not getting together with a woman he's been chasing for 70 years.
Not going to lie, but I voted Superman. Reason being is that I think he doesn't let his emotions get the best of him and is a natural-born leader. He's trustworthy, determined and devoted to protecting the world and a very skilled combatant. If it comes down to it, maybe Green Lantern or Aquaman as leader of JLA. Aqua should form a JL to protect and serve the Seven Seas, now that would be badass!
@BlackReaper: I guess if you define that as a problem (I don't). I was more referring to the Others and that he had experience leading a team of heroes.

@War Killer: because at some point someone has to call the shot...make a decision. Now the truth is : superman will always be the face of the justice league. He's politically correct,he's the first superhero, he's the most powerful. But everytime a hard decision has to be taken it's batman who chooses for the others (especially because he has contengency plans so he always know what to do and he has a strong sense of initiative). He's also the one choosing the tactic and telling the other capes what to do in a battle. So you could say that Superman is the leader in title and in moral while Batman is the leader in the shadow . . The only (big) exception is during identity crisis when they brainwashed doctor light and erased batman memory....and with brother eye/OMAC Daddy reminded them who was the boss
this....

J'onn should be the leader. As the last true green martian he can be the most objective. Superman, Hawkgirl, and other aliens are too attached to people on earth.
j'onn was just as attached to the people of Earth as the others. hes been on Earth longer than most of them and in pre flashpoint continuity was the most well known hero in the southern hemisphere.
Superman can be the face of the JL, but I don't think they need or should have a leader. They're all fairly intelligent and capable people, they can work out their differences when they need to work together. Also, these people are, each in their own way, some of the most powerful people on the planet. Does the world really need them having the intrigues and resentments that are inherent in any power structure?
- Why not Clark?
- He should be able to handle that with his "superior" kryptonian intellect and mind shouldn't he?
No one. The league works best that way. But if I have to chose... Dick Grayson!!!
By the way, why were Black Canary leader of the league? Don't get me wrong, she is badass, but a leader?
according to John Stewart she was tactically he best leader the team ever had. heck, she was the field leader of the birds of prey as well.
All the members of the Justice League are decent leaders. Although Flash and Hal Jordan don't really have good track records to back it up.

Barry was the unofficial leader of the league in JLA year one and did a decent job, i dont think he's really been given a chance since then. Hal's has definitely been iffy. he didn't do all that bad during the short time the corps was based on earth considering, and his time leading JLI was decent up until his breakdown. Cry For Justice was a f*$(ing disaster (but no one is sure if thats Hal's fault or James Robinsons lol).
I personally think either the trinity as a whole (with Supes up front) or MM should take the lead (im not all that familiar with Cyborg's credentials outside of his brief time as leader of the Titans).John Stewart said it best, Batman cant lead by himself because he views and treats the League members as soldiers rather than as unique and equal individuals. its what got him kicked out of the JLA, demoted during his JLI run, and even abandoned by the Outsiders.
I liked it best in Morrison's JLA, where it was clear there were senior members and the younger rookies - but there was a collective pulling through of effort in terms of decisions and tactics. There was a hierarchy of sorts, but no clear-cut leader, instead a more primus inter pares type atmosphere.
Unlike the Avengers where Cap is the clear-cut leader, the League's leadership seems to be a more collective team effort.
Need a heart and soul to inspire and be a kind of moral compass for all the power they have, usually assumed to be Superman. Does the leader have to be the most tactically sound, on that I'm not sure how good superman is one way or the other. Batman's too solo and secretive to keep it all together on a long term basis. Does anyone else have a good mix? Martian? Just trying to give an alternative to the defacto Superman choice
Batman serves as tactical and field leader(meaning he calls the shots in conflict scenarios). Superman handles things like moral support of members, inspirational leader, the man you go to when you have concerns about where the team is headed.
Superman with Batman as the strategist and second in command. Whoever is leading, Superman will always be on their level regardless.
On a more serious note, Bats isn't a genuine leader, a glorious strategist but not a leader. Supes is the symbol of heroism and the leader type. Bats is too distrusting and cynical, just to add. Besides Supes, he trusts no one else in the team.
A good leader is a master strategist who views and uses their teammates as chess pieces without caring how they view him or her and also being willing to do anything to get the job done. My answer is Batman
No, that's not a good leader. A good leader views his comrades as people, not pawns. With care, not emotionless analysis.
The Trinity; with Superman as the center.
Agreed. It should be WW, SM, and Bats as the main 3 ..
Personally I don't think there should be any one leader.
I agree. What makes me like the Justice League the most is that all of the members seem to be equal to each other in their own special ways.
