The Cyborg his time has come special feature has actually convinced me that he is an essential member but I agree with the first 8 so far and this is very very well written, makes me proud to be a DC fan

I'd replace Atom with Cyborg. Cyborg isn't pron to going all atomic and can link to technology with all mainframes. He also has the connection's with Star Labs. But then again this isn't my list.

I'd was actually going to replace BL with Cyborg because BL seems to belong with the Outsiders, but I like replacing Atom with him better

I know that this wasn't the purpose, but I felt like I should write the twelve I felt were necessary, if nothing for comparison. In Bold are the Ones we agree.

@Aero_gt: Yeah like the OP said Black Lightning year 1 is good but DC never used him to his potential, Static is cool too but just because they have similar powers doesn't mean they can't both be well used at the same time, if worst came to worst I would put them as partners in a well written miniseries to boost both characters popularity

Perhaps they should change BL's name if they decide to bring him into the DCnU? Haven't read much of him but he seems cool.

@Adnan: I would hate him changing is name, it would represent backing down on something that he should never have to back down about

Maybe in the DCnU, They can make BL's powers Red like if you chose the bad side in Infamous. He shouldn't be forgotten at all since he's a pretty occuring member in the Jl's extra list.

@Aero_gt: His Lightning is already black in color which is another reason he shouldn't change his name

@BlackArmor: Cool stuff then. Well just a costume change then. He doesn't need blue an yellow and his costume is pretty styling.

I agree with character 1 - 9, but I'd drop Black Lightning, Vixen and Atom.

@Adnan: True enough, but there are a lot more corny names out there that won't be changed and I think Black Lightning as a name needs to be held to the same or greater standards because of what it represents, along with the fact that he actually summons black lightning as opposed to regular lightning.

To me, I don't think anyone should ALWAYS be on the JLA, I like the fact that sometimes they change rosters completely, like the Avengers the team should stay fluid. I actually loved the recent JLA where Grayson was the leader with Supergirl, Jade, etc

@Captain13: I just think those 12 are the most iconic characters of DC, and I think the JLA should be the most iconic. And yes I do love the silver age DC with the original seven and the first 3 new members. Captain Marvel and Plastic Man were 2 iconic characters from other companies that DC acquired, but I always felt they fit nicely, and Kingdom Come seemed to think so, too.

Legit team. Only change i'd make is replacing Vixen with Zatanna.

Vixen is obviosly Artemis. Flash is Hermes. Wonder Woman is Hera. Green Arrow could be Apollo and thats all I could think of off the top of my head.

Amazingly well written!! I enjoyed reading this. I couldn't agree with you more about these 12 being the quintessential Justice League; and I really like how you tied their personalities and roles within the team to the Greek Pantheon. Once again, really good article!!
