How could it work? Who could be on it? Which Justice League members are willing to kill and keep it all secret.

I think Aquaman is a potential candidate. Anyone else?

Superman and Batman probably wouldn't like it...

It would have to be a group of anti-heroes, with a few leaders that aren't attached to our idea of morality. Supes, Bats, Flash, WWoman, Cyborg, Hal Jordan, all no goes obviously.

I can't think of many DC characters, personally, that would fit. I'm much less knowledgeable on DC than Marvel though. I would pick up that number 1 for sure though!

Wonder Woman kills, same with Hal jordan (who killed a sinestro corps member in one of the first issues of the new 52)

@JLDoom: I'm not saying that they have to not be willing to kill. I'm thinking on a larger scale. I don't think wonder woman would allow the genocide of a country in order to save another, stuff like that. I could be wrong though.

Could Martian Man Hunter maybe lead it? I'm guessing it would be like Uncanny X-Force, where the rest of the world is oblivious to their existence. So, MMH could lead a team to take down tactical targets without being restrained by Superman's morality?

Could Justice League form a black ops branch/affiliate?

I would say, yes but it would have to be set up with plausible deniable.

Batman and Superman do not kill their enemies. They are, without much debate, the trademark heroes of Justice League in terms of their own morality. Because of that, neither Batman or Superman would want to put their face or their time into a group of anti-heroes that may be killing people.

Another point is that a costumed hero cannot necessarily work on a black ops group due to the coloration and stylization. Even if Aquaman has become a bad-ass and that Wonder Woman/Ha Jordon kill people, their costumes would make them ill-fitting to be covert agents.

Ideally, a covert group could work with anti-heroes, reformed "Thunderbolt"-style villains and those of that style. If Justice League of America wasn't set up, I would have liked to see Steve Trevor lead a Justice League/Team 7 group with aspects of both willing to do wetwork. It could be a place to put "reformed" villains (Catwoman) and lesser anti-heroes as a darker style Justice League with the League's style, Team 7's operation style and X-Forces covert/black operations missions.

TL;DR: If so it needs deniable connection to the JL, no colorful costumed superheroes, Steve Trevor or similar leader, anti-heroes/reformed villains in the roster.

It would have to be small, you couldn't have a full league...it would have to be a squad and these missions would be dangerous damn right suicidal...a suicide squad if you will

Wasn't the B-Team something like this back in the day with Doctor Light? Zatanna, Green Arrow, Hawkman, etc? They'd erase memories to cover the League's trail.

    Also, maybe Stormwatch?

Aside from that, a team of that nature would be Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Huntress, Question, Wonder Woman, and... Hm... Power Girl.

The team is called the Outsiders

“These guys are not the JLA,” said the writer. “And the basic twist on it, they aren’t as the ol’ expression goes, ‘firefighters … running around and putting out fires’. They will be hunters. They’re going after the bad guys before the trouble starts.”---Judd Winick

There should never be a black ops team like X-force affiliated to the justice league officially or unofficially. The justice league stands for things that would make this defy the very ideals they embody.

never officially. But Outsiders volume 3 was essentially a black ops team one that took orders from Batman at times who was party of the Justice League. So indirectly you could say they were.

But with teams like Suicide Sqaud working fro the government I don't think a black ops team is needed

@Avenging-X-Bolt: Nice pull, I was just thinking Justice League Elite (great series).

Yeah, the concept's been done before, prior to the concept of X-Force as a hit squad.

As I understand it, since the normal Justice League with Bats, Supes, etc, are all, "We'll do as we please, outside of any and all earthly jurisdiction.", the government wants their own team of superhumans that can be held accountable to them. Hence, the Justice League of America, a League formed by the government, in the hopes of making the original Justice League obsolete.

In other words, it's what the Marvel Senate SHOULD have done rather than passing the SRA.

Ah, I remember reading that in an interview, thank you.

The roster for the JLA would work as an Outsider's books, plus/minus a few characters - Catwoman, Green Arrow and MM especially.

I'd love for the Outsiders to get brought back. The JLs bright and shiny ideals are well and good, but they don't always get the job done. Sometimes there are very nasty people who want to do very bad things and they need to be stopped whether someone like Superman can appreciate the means or not.

Maybe the New 52 JLA led by the very violent Martian has a license to kill from Amanda Waller. Freedom Fighters also work for the government.
