Superheroes in Motown
This is a bit of an odd issue. Crash course in plot, after the Mars/Earth War (which I know nothing about), the JLA Satellite was destroyed and the team badly strained. The first part of the issue deals with the turmoil and the disintegration as the League comes down to Aquaman, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, and Elongated Man. I like the fact that Gerry Conway addresses the fact that the new team is essentially comprised of b-listers. Aquaman as a founding member becomes the de facto leader, which I thought was great, because it's nice to see Aquaman take center stage. The new team consists of Steel, Gypsy, Vixen, and Vibe. The writing is a little tiny bit dated. And frankly, Vibe got on my nerves after a while and seemed a bit like a stereotypical hispanic. The odd team dynamic is further made bizarre by the fact that they're going to be based in Detroit. Overall, this is a fun issue, that in parts is a little silly, but I can appreciate what a daring move a roster change like this would have been, and as such I had a fun time with this comic.
