Gypsy and Zatanna, alone and trapped within the terrifying Mindworld of Adam!
J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, is trapped within a burning room. As the flames threaten to consume him, the Martian Manhunter reflects on his grandmother's stories of H'Ronmeer, the Martian God Of Death. Succumbing to the conflagration, J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, gives himself over to H'Ronmeer. The Gypsy escorts fellow runaway, Pamela Cross, through the city. The Gypsy encounters an old, beggar woman, who seems to be the Gypsy herself.
Terrified by the vision, the Gypsy flees, but finds that escape is not so easily won. Suddenly, Cross, the Gypsy, and the Martian Manhunter find themselves standing over the unconscious body of Zatanna. Using his telepathy, J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter from Mars, gently coaxes Zatanna to consciousness. Purely on reflex, Zatanna lashes out at the Martian Manhunter. Zatanna believes that her deceased father, Zatara, mystically drew the Gypsy, and J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, to her rescue.
Reality shifts about them, as Adam struggles to control the power he stole from Zatanna. Adam enters the room, and begs for help. The Martian Manhunter establishes telepathic contact with Adam. J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, discovers that Adam has made contact with the Godhead, which has expanded Adam's consciousness beyond the limits of reason. Zatanna severs the psychic link between Adam and the Martian Manhunter.
J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, asks Zatanna if the process can be reversed. Abducted, tortured, and violated, Zatanna is reluctant to aid Adam. The Gypsy, and the Martian Manhunter, convince Zatanna to do the right thing. With J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, anchoring their consciousness in the material world, the Gypsy, and Zatanna, plunge into Adam's mind, to sever his connection to the Godhead. Concern for Cross distracts the Martian Manhunter, to the point where he nearly loses his connection to the Gypsy, and Zatanna.
Reality shifts again, as Adam subconsciously rebels against the Gypsy, and Zatanna, traveling through his mind. As the Gypsy, and Zatanna, plunge into Adam's subconscious, Adam calms, and reality is restored. The Gypsy, and Zatanna, are consumed by Adam's repressed demons. J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, loses contact with the Gypsy, and Zatanna. The Martian Manhunter calls on Adam, himself, to aid them. Adam, however, cannot even help himself.
