Something is draining the lifeblood out of the JLA. Can they stop it before it kills them?

The Justice League of America rushes the Vixen to the medical center. The Gypsy coerces a nightmarish alien entity into the Secret Sanctuary. Steel, and Vibe, confront the Gypsy, intent on taking the alien horror captive. Steel attacks. The alien retaliates, downing him. Vibe attacks, accidentally bringing the ceiling down, separating himself, and Steel, from the Gypsy, and the creature. By the time Steel, and Vibe, break through the obstruction, the Gypsy has fled, with the monstrous alien being. J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, determines that the Vixen is not suffering from a malady. An outside force is slowly draining her life force away.

The Elongated Man suffers a bout of weakness. The Martian Manhunter discovers one of the alien's skin cells. Steel, and Vibe, report the alien's escape. J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, sends Steel, and Vibe, out after the alien. Unnoticed, the Elongated Man staggers away. Zatanna consults Mama Larue on a case. Mama Larue identifies graveyard dust, found in Zatanna's apartment. Oblivious to the overtures of would-be suitors, Zatanna continues her investigation into the disappearance of Sheri Stanley. Sue Dibny, the Elongated Man's wife, nearly runs into the Gypsy, and the alien. Steel, and Vibe, confront the Gypsy, and the alien. The alien flees.

The Gypsy turns to pursue, but collapses. The Gypsy's condition mirrors what has happened to the Vixen. On Kalanor, Despero enters the transformative Flame of Py'Tar. The Martian Manhunter analyzes the alien's skin cell. The alien is identified as a species of flora, native to the planet, Toris-II. The Justice League of America evacuated the populace of Toris-II, before their sun went nova. Superman unknowingly carried a microscopic spore from Toris-II to Earth. In the Secret Sanctuary, the spore grew, feeding off the life forces of small animals, and insects. Now, the spore is feeding off the life forces of the Justice League of America.

Realizing the severity of the threat, J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, reaches for the Justice League of America distress signal. The Martian Manhunter, however, succumbs to the spore's life drain before he can activate the signal. Dibny, Steel, and Vibe rush the Gypsy back to the Secret Sanctuary, with the alien close behind them. Dibny discovers a family of dead possums, completely mummified. Dibny discovers the Elongated Man, unconscious, near death. The alien drains away the life forces of Steel, and Vibe. The alien undergoes a metamorphosis. Dibny discovers J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, slumped over a console. Dibny activates the distress signal, just as the alien downs her.
