Pretty much what you said. There's so much we don't know about the Joker. All we know is that he wants to be the antagonist to the Batman and has a suicidal pact with him, except it wasn't a mutual agreement... maybe deep down in with Batman having a hero complex and wanting a hero's death.

I've always thought of The Joker as Iago from Shakespeare's Othello. Iago was just messing with Othello just because. (However, it could be analyzed Iago was jealous but didn't want to be Othello). Other than that, there are very little (original but deep) villains like Joker and Iago.

Sometimes I see the Joker as the "mustache twirling" villain (evil for evil's sake). Maybe it's just the Joker's nature, which just makes him too simple yet we all still clamor for him. Maybe it's the way he does things, it's just so grand/simple and psychologically messes with you.

Edit: Most recent memorable moment with Joker has to be Joker's infiltration of the GCPD and his chat with Gordon in Death of the Family. That was just so creepy.

On Topic: Jokers alright, not my favorite, not my least. I liked Redhood 1 better. He was awesome back then.

I like Joker because first off he's completely unpredictable and gets away with almost doing anything to screw with Batman and company. Secondly, he's doesn't have origin story, as he points out himself, it could be multi-choice (The Killing Joke but I can't remember the quote off the top of my head!) and lastly, he's not that take over world type villain that gets off doing the same thing over and over again. The Joker never gets old because there's so much more that you can do with him!

The reason I believe we all love Joker is because of his psychosis and he is really really funny. lol

I call bullshit The Joker is a cool villain no doubt, but DC is obsessed with him. There are many more cool DC villains with the potential to be even cooler than Joker if they would get the same Mainstream attention. Personally I think The Riddler could have some really cool Graphic Novels and for me he´s the most compelling villain of the Dark Knight, along with The Joker.

I think Wonder Woman´s Ares is a brilliant villain who you could have lots of different takes on if they bothered to use him more often.

Braniac is a really cool villain, I´d love to see him in a film giving Superman both an intellectual and physical challenge.

Black Adam is a perfect foil for Shazam. Again I think he´s an excellent villain with alot of complexity and has a great match in Billy Batson for adversary.

Joker is awesome, no doubt, but as long as we keep this fetish for him DC will never see the opportunity they have with other great villians in there cannon, including Batman villains. I don´t want to see Joker in film again until the third installment of the next round of Batman movies.

I think the Joker is a cool villain because he is unpredictable and finds someway at making something evil suprisingly comical(even murder!). He also brings out the worst in people, wheather it be Batman, other heroes, and other villains due to his warped sense of morality and humor. Alfred said that "Some men don't want money or power. Some men just want to watch the world burn" and the Joker is a true definition of that meaning.

When It comes to villains Joker is not really one of my favourites, I understand how people love him and I respect that.

Meh, I feel like it would have been better to talk about a character who people think is lame, but is actually pretty cool. Or talk about why Aquaman is cool, yeah I know it's been done hundreds of times but it never gets old :)

I agree, and I advise you that you're probably gonna need to get over it. You're not gonna get something for it. So, I don't see what's the point of being first all the time.
