Butler broke into the comic book industry in the early 80s as the co-creator (with writer, Mike Baron) of The Badger for Capital Comics and later, First Comics. He also helped writer Ron Fortier bring The Green Hornet back to comics in the early 90s. In between he spent 5 years as a staff artist for game company TSR, Inc., the makers of Dungeons&Dragons. During that time, Butler did a great deal of comic book related artwork for the Marvel Super Heroes Role Playing Game.
After returning to comics, Butler’s credits included The Sting of the Green Hornet (possibly his best comic work), Hercules, The Legendary Journeys (which included Xena: Warrior Princess), the comic adaptation of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jason vs. Leatherface, and a curious, one-shot novelty, Godzilla vs. Charles Barkley, which reunited him with his original collaborator, Mike Baron.
Butler currently works as a video game character artist for Raven Software. His recent credits include X-MEN: LEGENDS I & II, as well as the very successful MARVEL: ULTIMATE ALLIANCE video game.
