Im not surprised if she comes back. Hell, shes due. But, as soon as Marvel even mentioned the Phoenix Force, you just knew Jean was coming back. And Im thinking the poo is gonna hit the fan when she does. What would happen when she sees Cyke and Emma together?
Jean Grey
Character » Jean Grey appears in 8004 issues.
Jean Grey was one of the five original X-Men. An omega-level mutant telepath and powerful telekinetic, Jean has gained near limitless powers as a recurrent host of the Phoenix Force. She is known for her return from death and as the wife of Cyclops.
Marvel Teases the Possible Return of Jean Grey
I like this idea up until the point Marvel decides that Jean and Wolverine should be a couple, then I hate it for all eternity.
ABOUT TIME....... Maybe Jean can knock some sense into the mutant community. And she dont need to be with Logan, and Not SCOTT. She needs to find her way into the world like Wanda doing. Leave the Teams alone
All I can say is....I can only accept her back with the condition of getting rid of her ''Phoenix'' connection. We all know that as long as that bond exists, she will always be a target for these ridiculous events and cop-out ''Dead or not Dead'' status.
I think Marvel shot themselves in the foot when they made her ''Omega LvL'' and so powerful that something has to go wrong for her to be a compelling story. Same as Superman since he can basicly do ANYTHING, you cannot get a good story without going overboard. DC is trying to fix that Superman with reboot... I doubt Marvel will have the same luxury with Jean, only way I can see it is to sever her connection with the Phoenix.

I'm all for it, this is the natural conclusion of AvX, that and mutants aren't almost extinct anymore
edit: Not that AvX is particularly good or anything.. I'm just saying.. this is where its all leading
absolutely this.

She should exist in Hope's mind to mentor her when she gets the Phoenix Force. <----that would be cool
Also didn't Marvel tease that New X-Men series a while back that looked at the past of some specific Mutants?
I hope it's one of those two.
Wow! If that is the case I'd love to see Jean's return! The classic uniform though puzzles me and makes me think this perhaps is only a flashback, but who knows for certain. Wouldn't it be crazy if it was Jean from the past winding up in modern times? ::shrugs:: I am really interested in seeing where they are going with this.
Spoilers about Jean’s return and the face of Marvel after AvX. Take them with a grain of salt ofc. From another site...
I am just browsing through this weeks entertainment weekly and there is an article about Comi-Con with one page addressing the upcoming changes in the Marvel universe:
ps, since everybody can get this, and it looks like it comes straight from Marvel ( that is what the article is implying) I’m not really spoiling a big secret, but still spoilers:
……………………………
Uncanny Avengers: (oct 2012) written by Remender. It is going to be the new flagship marvel title and will have among others Cap, Thor, Wolvy, Rogue and Havok in it and both sides will still have some AVX tension.
Avengers (dec 2012): Bi weekly with more then 18 avengers on the team. Written by Hickman with one shot stories and longer galaxy spanning multi-issue arcs
X-men: (nov 2012) hold on to your hats…… Bendis!!! about the original five x-men time-travel two the present in a pleasantville style story and who are not going to like what they see once they are in the present and will find it unacceptable. Bendis says the time travel aspect of the story is not as important as the character based drama.

Yea, I read that on CBR forums myself not to long ago.

That combined with the image of Uncanny Avengers must mean.... A younger Jean from the X-men arc will join the Avengers?

Seems to be a time displaced Jean. Kind of a cop out IMO.

The image with the hulk, thats not the UA art from my understanding it's a concept art or for another series.
Please bring her back. I don't understand why so many people are against this. In recent years we've all learned that absolutely nobody in comics stays dead anymore. Should we just leave Nightcrawler deceased as well? She's a great character and I definitely want her back.
After seeing the pic i think it will be an alternate Jean or like stated earlier the 616 Jean from an earlier time. I would like it to be the real Jean from the present time and after she readjusts herself to the modern world i would like to see her and Iceman have a Lil brother big sister type of role that they can be really close but no sexual tension. Also I like someone else's idea of possibly giving her a new set of powers. I like her with the powers she had before she ever got the Phoenix Force but there are ALOT of similar characters out there now so i would almost say the best thing for her is to give her a new unique set of abilities.

@Mercy_: I've been reading and re-reading over all of what ya'll have been engaging over. And between the two of you, I truly wish I was there in person to hear it audibly. That said - I probably disagree with ReVamp the more so. That said - I posted about this further along in this thread about the enduring qualities of Jean as embodied through the Phoenix Force. If there were a physical case to be made for the possibility of reanimation - several Marvel characters would probably be able to tap into those nebulous energies. Jean would be one.
More-over, I do not care for Emma - I fundamentally don't trust her. Scott's had his issues - but truthfully if you can't see the heroic flaws in the man then I have some Shakespearean literature I'd like to pass along to all of the Cyc haters on here. Anyone that's ever had several people truly love them - and then have to choose should be able to understand that there are often more losers than winners when it comes to love or other matters of the heart.
ReVamp's wrong though - Scott's decision needs to be exonerated by the light of day. And their relationship being based on reality ? Wow, now there's a meta-physical/existential discussion I'd love to hear. Again - that's not you. I do believe though that the interplay between one of the two most powerful females in comics (Marvel side) would make for high drama. (Sigh) At heart I have to believe that Scott would still go back to the woman whom he has risked everything for. If you've never read the old Dark Phoenix Saga and watch the two of them fight for Jean's life - watched as two young lovers twist against the wind, well, it's worth a read.
Short of commenting further on Emma - and what type of woman she is, and her usefulness - I'll be a gentleman about it. That said - Jean was always a woman any man could desire. I like to think that Scott would do what I or any man would in the face of that choice. Indecencies aside, cavorting in telepathic trysts aside - I believe the man would still take Red.
Of all the post on her this is the one that I agree with most. Mind you I'm not a fan of Jean Grey, however, since her death I've noticed that Scott's morals have become morally-grey to say the least. Given the circumstances of his upbringing, loss of family, decreasing of species and the sort I don't fault him, though I do believe that I've realize Jean's role in Scott's life. I feel that she was a moral anchor for him((or "morality pet" as tropers may know it as)) and was very much the heart of the team. I just feel that writers may have not thought about taking that approach with her and just constantly pegged her as the integral part of the Scott-Jean-Logan love triangle.
I definitely feel that fans should let what Scott did go as it's just as asinine as Hank Pym striking Janet and is now blown completely out of proportion. Even considering the circumstances both in comic and from a writer's standpoint fans still want to black-list the character. What's in the past is in the past and with Scott having paid his dues fans are still angry with him over and seem as though they'll never give him a fair shot; I feel that something has got to give.
As far as Emma I lean more towards the positive, however, given her track record I understand any resentment and apprehension towards her. I do feel that she's proven herself over the course of the years, however, the whole love triangle with Namor just feels forced no matter how you slice it and it just sets up Emma for the same fate as Jean.
Should Jean return and Scott return to her then it should be handled gracefully rather than Scott hitting a straight b-line for her as that's just going to further dig Scott into a deeper hole. I'd want for Scott to stick with Emma so that at least it shows that the man possesses integrity. If he's to go back to Jean then fine but I just humbly ask that's not done in a cheap fashion.
So the original 5 x-men come from the past and don't like what they become. So this is Marvel Girl not the jean who died but her younger self >_>

You know what's a nice benefit to this? It'll be absolute torture for Scott to be around Jean looking just as she did when he first fell in love with her. Torture for Emma too, we all know how vain she is.
It is the jean he fell in love with lol This is Marvel Girl from his past not current Jean. She's Original 5 jean not phoenix jean
i´m downright your opinion she should come back as the one we know and without the phoenix force ....... and she should STAY!!!!!!!!!

This whole original 5 things reminds me of that they tried to do with X-Men Forever just in the 616
Please keep her dead. If she's not gonna be rid of the PF or distance herself from Scott and Logan then her reappearance is unnecessary. As one of the commenters said, she holds more power as a memory. She's better off dead than alive. Too much shit will hit the fan if she takes a breathe.
