I have just been re-reading the Battle for the Cowl and it is amazing to see the transformation of Jason in regards to how he was written back then, in comparison to how he is written now.

Granted I felt his character was over-exaggerated in Battle for the Cowl, Jason does seem a lot more mellow compared to his not so psychotic version in 'Under the Hood'.

I personally prefer this post 52 Jason because although he still has that edge and is willing to use deadly force, he's clearly not psychotic and screaming at people.

What about you guys? Do you prefer pre or post 52 Jason?

I want to say Pre because I loved some of the stories he was in But then I want to say post at the same time because he does have a direction now. So I'm split down the middle

This is how I feel

As others have said, he had some good stories before, but no direction. It was all about that particular story and then he'd show up doing something random and acting a certain way, complaining about Bruce or whatever. Sometimes he was focused and deadly (Under the Hood) and sometimes he was off his freaking rocker (Battle for the Cowl). Now people seem to have a direction they're trying to send him in and that allows for growth in the character. Its also good to not have him just running around attacking random members of the Bat Family for giggles.

Post it seems more like he has a plan now.

Didn't he try to blow himself and Batman up in under the hood? And didnt he attack Tim Drake to make himself feel better in Teen Titans? So......yeah, he was still psychotic just quieter

idk if he was necessarily psychotic in under the red hood, but his motives were certainly not in the right direction, he grew more psychotic as writers didnt know what to do with him. Fortunately Lobdell has taken the logical route and allowed him to grow in an environment where he doesnt need to be at batmans heels 24/7

His depiction under Morrison and Daniels was horrible. Jason lashing out at Batman right after his resurrection in Under the Hood was normal (at least expected), but his psychotic actions from there on was a bad move for the character. I really like what Lobdell is doing now in RHATO. Roy is such an obvious pairing for him. I'm amazed it took this long to realize they should be together in a team book.

Pre even though a lot of it was a mess. He was way more interesting back then.

Having a decent direction is better than being a mixed bag depending who was writing him.

I do not like the new Jason Todd.

Post - I enjoy his much more streamlined second origin. I always thought that the Under The Red Hood animated film hit the target right on the nose for how the story should have been told in the pre 52 universe.

I like the new Jason but I can't say the same for his new origin. Still miss his sassy way of talking.

i appreciate his pre-52 stories with Winnick. but as of today, I prefer his new 52 version, especially after Morrison about destroyed his character

post 52 is awesome

Pre 52 Jason Todd, post 52 version has a sucky origin compared to stealing tires of the batmobile, crappy robin costume compared to pre 52 robin costume for jason and post 52 resurrection of jason, extremely lame and stupid, no one can explain how a pit of liquid can restore a human soul back into its body.
