When it comes to deciding whether or not to re-purchase a movie in my personal collection on Blu-ray, sometimes it's an easy choice. There are some movies where the Blu-ray format will make a difference. When Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles was announced for Blu-ray, there was no question that I needed to have it.
Obviously, it's a great movie. It was pure fun. Of all the Pixar movies, this is the one that needs a sequel. We've had the comic books with their further adventures. As entertaining as those were, it obviously wasn't quite the same. For now, we have this four-disc release (2 Blu-ray discs, 1 DVD and 1 digital copy).

What does the Blu-ray have to offer that your old DVD copy doesn't already have? Will the Blu-ray format really make a difference? Will my seven-year-old daughter notice any differences?
     == TEASER ==
We all know about the movie. There's no need to get into a review of that. The Blu-ray quality does almost feel like you're watching it for the first time. The high-definition presentation along with a HDTV sucks you in and takes you to viewing paradise. This is why I'm a big supporter of Blu-ray. The Incredibles looked great before but somehow, on Blu-ray, it looks even better. It might not look as good as the more recent Pixar releases (this movie is from 2004) but it does look really nice.

What about the Special Features? There are some new ones as well as the old ones. The commentary is still here, along with the shorts "Boundin'" and "Jack-Jack Attack." There's a twenty-two minute The Incredibles Revisited which is a roundtable discussion with the writer/director, producer, story supervisor and others. They reflect on the making of the movie. The second Blu-ray disc has Path To Pixar: Story Artists, a feature seen on other releases where Pixar artists share their experiences on how they made it to Pixar. Studio Stories: Gary's Birthday is a telling of what happened during the making of the movie. Ending With A Bang shows us the process on making the end credits for the movie. "The New Nomanisan" Island Redevelopment Plan gives you an interactive guided tour of the island in a way that pitches the place as a vacation resort paradise. Of course the classic content is here such as Making of, Character Design, E Volution, Building Humans, etc.

It's safe to say that The Incredibles holds a special place for many. If you own a Blu-ray player, it pretty much goes without saying that you'd want to own this movie on the format. Sure you might already own it on DVD but the Blu-ray quality along with new features and just the fact that it's such a fun movie is reason enough to buy it again. If anything, you can give your DVD copy to a friend or family member that doesn't already own it.

You don't have to just take my word for it. My daughter, L'il Girl-G, watched it with me last week and shared her thoughts.

Parts of it look like they're closer up. I would probably watch the Blu-ray. It seems more alive.

So if a seven-year-old can appreciate the difference, you should be able to. The Incredibles is available now in stores on Blu-ray.

This movie was definitely awesome on so many levels.  One of the only "cartoon" movies I don't feel badly about liking out loud.  Any word on a possible sequel?

@CRTrobinson: When I saw the Revisited roundtable special feature, I was hoping that bringing them together would mean something. I loved Monsters, Inc and Cars but we all want a sequel to The Incredibles.

Been a fan of this film forever and am still wondering WHERE THE SEQUEL!!! Why does Toy Story get 2, and Cars gets one (didn't deserve one over  Incredibles or Monsters Inc.) but not Incredibles? The scene where Dash realizes he can run over water is still my favorite.

There's GOTTA be somebody willing to produce a sequel. Maybe aliens invade and the supers that had gone into hiding are called into action again. Violet's college aged, Dash is in Highschool, Jack-Jack is a full-time priority for Elastigirl and Mr. Incredible since he's so unpredictable....maybe the aliens are after him for his array of powers. I dunno, that's pretty generic, but somebody needs to do this soon!

I really like the movie but since I have it on DVD already I am not that compelled to pick it up on Blu-Ray.  I would have if it included a trailer for The Incredibles 2.  More Cars and more Monsters Inc but no Incredibles sequel?  Argh!

Why are people talking about Cars in a review about the Incredibles?

I can't wait for this to come out Blue-Ray over here.  I've signed up to be 'notified' on Amazon when it's available for Pre-Order but after reading the review I just can't wait!  This is one of my all time favourite Pixar movies and I can't wait to see it in all it's Blu-Ray goodness :)

I love the incredibles it is one of my favorite movies. I am going to have to buy this blu ray especially for the new special features. Maybe if enough people buy it Pixer will see that we want a SEQUEL. Like G-man said the comics are cool but just not the same as getting a sequel.

After I first saw The Incredibles in the theater, I went back to the ticket counter and bought another ticket for the very next showing.  I've never, ever done that before or since with any other movie.  I literally wanted to watch it again the moment it ended.

Oh, and Cars is a fine movie with plenty of heart.  It's not as flashy or exciting as some other Pixar films, but that's actually central to the themes of the movie iteslf.  It also tends not to resonate with people who don't relate to small towns and tightly-knit communities, let alone the value of character over materialism and fame.  It's antithetical to large, progressive metropolises, which is the locality of most movie critics.

If I had to pick the weakest of the Pixar films, it would have to be A Bug's Life.  That movie is amazingly forgettable.  Heck, I think I liked Antz better that that.
