No sense in fighting it, so I won’t even try to resist the urge to say that IDW is excavating JURASSIC PARK for an all-new comic series, some nine years after JURASSIC PARK III hit theaters. It's been even longer since all those Malibu tie-in comics for the first movie, hasn't it? Anyway, this mini-series beginning in June will be written by Bob Schreck and drawn Nate Van Dyke and it’s going to star the two kids from the first movie when they’re “all growed up.”
It’s been 13 years since little Tim and Lex Murphy escaped from the island of Isla Nublar, and recent public opinion has reversed, with the world clamoring for authorities to re-open Jurassic Park! While Tim and Lex try to preserve the Hammond family name, a secret
deal is hatched to open a new park! This time they’ll get it right… right?
It’s kind of funny that this has popped today because I was watching the original movie a couple weeks ago and thinking about how the license was pretty loose enough to do some interesting takes on it. I’m hoping IDW goes balls-to-walls bonkers with the idea given the freedom they have. It’d be awesome to see them take the idea to strange extremes like Frank Miller and Walter Simonson’s ROBOCOP VS. TERMINATOR comic did. Maybe maybe maybe…
they could even set up a crossover of their own with that forgotten comic series CADILLACS & DINOSAURS. Remember that? I think it would have more potential to cause chaos than even an amber-encased mosquito with dinosaur DNA in its belly.
Every regular cover’s going to be by Tom Yeates and the variants will be done by a revolving door of top names. (Appropriately, given my mention of ROBOCOP VS. TERMINATOR) Frank Miller for #1, Arthur Adams for #2, Paul Pope for #3, Bernie Wrightson for #4 and Bill Stout for #5.
