While Johnny is known for his impetuous and sometimes reckless nature, he is also a loyal friend and fearless hero.

    Has it ever been fully explained how johnny could write symbols/messages in the sky, and how they would continue to burn for a while despite lacking one of the main ingredients in the production of fire (fuel) 
     
    or has it always just been a subject of comicbook/cartoon physics?

    @DH69: Its probably just one of those things like in the old spiderman cartoons when he'd be swing on a web that was obviously not connected to anything

    true but they fixed that in later incarnations, but johnny was still doin it in comics, and shows, till they off'd him.

    He has a certain amount of control over his flames. Add that to his high speed and they could be in the sky briefly.
