Hulk
Character » Hulk appears in 7765 issues.
After being bombarded with a massive dose of gamma radiation while saving a young man's life during an experimental bomb testing, Dr. Robert Bruce Banner was transformed into the Incredible Hulk: a green behemoth who is the living personification of rage and pure physical strength.
Are There Too Many Hulks?
The only Hulks I care for are Bruce, She-Hulk, and Red Hulk. All of the others I could careless about.
" Get rid of everyone except for the original and She Hulk. Everyone else can die for all I care. "
I absolutely hate the current Hulk books. They are just one event after another with no character development to be found. It seems like the panels are edited horribly. Characters just seem to jump around (Not literally) and appear different places without having moved. I digress.
What ever happened to Hulk wanting to just be left alone? Not paling around with other misfits who don't even get along. Bring back Bruce Jones, for the love of Odin.
I like Rulk, turning ross into a hulk has been a well written character development representing a dichotomy of him turning into that which he hates. But as gamma radiation is turned Banner into what he subconsciously wishes to be this just makes Ross as a Hulk even more interesting.
Lyra intrigues me, the idea of the powers reducing with anger is interesting but she's never had any decent stories.
Skaar is more of a tool for the character development of Banner but he does need a purpose. Whereas before it was to prepare to kill the hulk now he has no role.
Red She-Hulk was a gimmick. A shill, a con, a flim-flam. A bloody piss take. Dressed up in domino's clothes with electra's sai it's just been a daft idea designed to take a shortcut to selling books.
A-Bomb, why? Just why?
She-hulk, well she's had a good run but has run her course. Can't remember the last time she made a major contribution to a story or even won a major fight.
To sum up, keep Rulk, Lyra & Skaar but do something good with them.
IMO she should have either become a member of the Secret Avengers or a potential new member of the Hand, or hang out with Elektra, or Carmilla Black or something (calm, precise, agile and deadly scream ninja to me). Like Skaar (fingers crossed), just give her another place to shine, outside of the Hulk Family in order to accentuate her uniqueness so that maybe over time we won't see her as just another She-Hulk. "This is a wise person
Not just too many Hulk characters but plenty of Gamma-irradiated ones as well. Although I love having plenty of Gamma powered characters for Hulk as enemies, I can't get enough of them, but all these other "Hulks" hasn't been all that great.
I think Red Hulk was great at first, I loved it but the reveal, to me, of him being possibly Gen. Ross SUCKS, and what sucks even more? Red She-Hulk is Betty Ross. Yes a definite collective groan on that one. Although she's sexy as all get out. Yes, I said it. Ha Ha!
Skaar isn't too bad but just don't know, don't really like the idea all that much but it isn't too terribly bad.
Oh, well, maybe there will be more free-for-all battles to slim down all the green and red Hulks running around. Now that would be something I'd like to see!
Before you know it, all those pesky Hulks will be demanding their own nation like Magneto did with Genosha. This is getting to be a handful. Ok, ok, it already is a handful, and shows no signs of stopping, unfortunately.
You got the Superman Family, the Batman Family, the Spiderman Family...I personally love the Hulk family...for far too long the Hulk has been alone, it's good to since him with beings of his own kind for a change. And I also like the Red Hulk and Red She-Hulk...Ross as a powerhouse with that old man solider attitude is hilarious, and Ross can now see what Bruce has been going through all these years. As for Betty let's face it in the dangerous world of the Hulk this would be the only way she could be near him and be any way close to safe...now I think they should just STOP with what they have so far...unless Bruce and Betty have a child of their own...I wonder what color Hulk can a green and red Hulk make? lol
I like Red Hulk, She Hulk and Lyra. Can't say I care for Skaar, Red She-Hulk or, ahem, the original Hulk.
Too many to be sure.
The original is great.
She-Hulk (Jen) has won me over.
I don't count the gamma-powered villains as "Hulks" so they can stay.
I liked/like Doc Samson but never considered him a "Hulk."
The rest should go; all they do is unduly diminish the Hulk's uniqueness.
I havn't really read Hulk since Planet Hulk, which I thought was great. There are alot of them now but I think they could have their own place with a better writer. Jeff Loeb just can't write anymore and people just see through it. He needs to just stick on self contained issues like Spider-Man: Blue and stuff like that.
Marvel is really trying to build "HULK" up like a brand ala X-Men and Avengers. I read the She-Hulks book and it was actually good, art was very good which helped and the story was fun and light. Savage She-Hulk seems interesting enough but wonder what place she has in the Marvel U unless they say add her to a team book like Young Avengers or Avengers Academy.
The best thing Red She-Hulk has going for her is her look. It has potential again if handed to the best writer to tweak her character and origin to make her different than the other Hulks and even She-Hulk. Possibly give her a name other than "Red She-Hulk" because I can't imagine that is what people would be really calling her.
I think everyone was let down and puzzled by who Red Hulk turned out being but whats done is done. I can imagine the character going away for a while quite easily but Marvel has invested into the character to turn into another "Sentry".
I think two hulks were too much. Now theres more like 16. Although Skaar is okay because hes Hulk's son. And he came out of a good story. There should be an event where every hulk dies but one or two. I would read that.
Honestly, I don't think there are too many Hulks. From an outside perspective I can see why people would think there are, but within the context of the Hulk books they're each very strong characters and have an interesting dynamic as a group, especially since the Hulk always just wanted to be left alone
" Just Hulk & She-Hulk. No more than that. "Co-sign. The rest is just plain silly. The Red Hulk / Red She Hulk thing makes no sense thematically or psychologically. It is right up there was bringing back Norman Osborn or having Gwen Stacey come back as his baby momma. Bad writing.
" You may be giving crap to Red Hulk, but if your reading Jeff Parker's Hulk right now, you know that this entire article is wrong. Hulk (since Jeff Parker took over) is one of the best Hulk books I've ever read. If you didn't like Red Hulk at first, start with issue #25 of Hulk and you will not be disappointed at all "Well said... Parker is doing an amazing job with a darker toned red hulk (not to mention Gabriel Hardmans fantastic art)... its green hulk and his cast that needs a good smashing!
I dont think theres too many Hulks, and if you wanna put it out there look at all the supes runing around the comic world today lol. Superboy, supergirl, powergirl, etc,,,,
The Hulking is okay, because the Young Avengers are all copies, but the red hulks are have a good place in the top list of most unnecessary characters
"Yep! He's based his appearance off of the Hulk family, but has nothing to do with the rest of them. He's mentioned as a minor after-thought because he's not a Gamma-based hero"
Also Hulking isn't a Hulk he's a Kree/Skrull Hybird
" there is new hulk in the ultimate universe on the avengers team.Aside from him there is also regular Hulk and Nerd Hulk.
"
I kept the Ultimate Hulks out of this one though.
