After just a small cameo inGuardians of the Galaxy, suddenly everyone was talking once again about Howard the Duck. Well, if you were hoping to see more of the odd character, Marvel has made your wish come true! The ongoing series is by Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones. During an interview with EW, Zdarsky says he likes Howard the Duck because the character is "an everyman who happens to be a duck! He’s angry, exasperated, and he’s had it up to here with the world around him, but he’s trapped here! Infinitely relatable!"
Straight from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy…post-credits scene comes the comic book return of the Marvel Universe’s most satirical sort. Join him as he takes on the Marvel Universe’s strangest cases only a talking duck can quack as New York City’s newest private investigator! New York City is full of the strange and the weird – a talking duck gumshoe shouldn’t be that much of a shocker!
Be there when Howard the Duck ventures through the Marvel Universe, trapped in a world he’s become accustomed to as he takes on the Black Cat, She-Hulk and mysterious forces from outer space! Plus maybe even a Guardian of the Galaxy or two! (Mmmmmaybe.)
As for the story, Zdarsky states he loves how different the character is from the rest of the Marvel Universe. "I love the contrast of Howard against both the normal world of us hairless apes and the weird worlds of Man-Things and Dr. Stranges and Spider-Mans. Cause he doesn’t fit into either, really. I’m just going to continue exploring those contrasts, but my ultimate goal is to make it funny. Marvel has taken chances on funny books and injecting humor into superhero titles, so I want to make sure this is worth some chuckles here and there. God, I’m picturing the reviews now: 'Some chuckles here and there.' Shoot for the stars, Chip!" Click here to read the full interview. So, who's going to buy the first issue?
