Excerpt from Ghosts of Japan, the Lost Rituals of Kanaguri
Hiragana-San dominates the western side of Torikana village, some fifty miles north of Kyoto, to the west of the Shizuoka Prefecture.
The sacred mountain rises like an old man out of the mists that dominate its southern face. It is a forbidding place; dark and dangerous. A graveyard for countless climbers lost on its perilous paths.
Unlike other mountain gods of Japan-- who are benign, if not benevolent-- the Old Man is a treacherous deity.
Those who once came here seeking his protection are long gone, chased away by ice storms and sudden winds that threaten to blow the unwary from the side of the mountain.
Many local legend speak of the Yurei Demon, Kitsunebi. A twilight beast of silent white that hides in the snowfall, waiting to blind and freeze those who seek audience with the mountain god.
These days, it is said only the foolhardy will dare to venture into the path of the demon who protects the Old Man.
The people of the nearby Torikana village have become ashamed of their unruly relative. The pious avert their gaze, lovers venture along different paths.
And so the Old Man sits and waits.
Wolverine: The End.
On Hiragana-San Mountain is located the John Howlett's Headquarters.
