This has come from a discussion i'm having on another forum and i thought i'd raise the question here.

What did people think of Emerald Twilight?

was it the last straw for Hal fan's and you stopped reading after that?

did you love the emotional turmoil that Hal went through and found the story believable?

did you love it for just introducing Kyle to us?

To be honest I hated it. The Green Lanterns have used there rings for leisure purposes before so I didn't understand why the guardians choose to snap at Hal. Secondly the Guardians have never been strong on enforcing the you have to be a good cop, Sinestro, Malevdo, and that weid fish guy all became tyrants and the guardians could not stop them.

To further add to my frustation the introduction of Parallax and Ion would permantly throw Gl Contiunity out of wack because to be quite Frank it makes little sense just as the end of the orginial issues left me thinking, WTF?

I don't know how or why Hal would cut through the mass people when he was faced with worse discussions before.

I hate Ron Marz to the bottom of my soul, espically due to the "Lethal Force" completely destorys the Gl corps, because after all what happens when they blow up those countless space ships?

Ron Marz was a disaster to the GL line and I thought the Emelard Twilight was a Traversy.

Well when I was younger I thought he was the greatest, first comic book was GL 35 with the new corps fighting Entrophy I got hooked, wasn't much of a Kyle fan, but that was because It thought the Aliens were cool. I loved the Guy Gardner #3 when they show you the GLC crypt.

i was a Hal fan first, but lately i actually like Kyle...

i wouldn't say i have a preference between them though :D

my maid headache is the retcons they seem to be throwing into GL like sprinkles on icecream at the moment

Yes well I was hopeful that the sinestro Wars would be in a way a purge of Ron Marz, Get rid of both parallax, and Ion, the No lethal force thing and return GL to pre 94 status.

yeah, that would be cool...

but i am looking forward to the "Light War" next year :D

Well I'm curious if they are going to have the Yellow, Green, Purple war what about the anti corps, or the manhunters own red rings?

The Red Rings are made by The Controllers and are based on Hate...

The Blue Rings are still unknown, but thought to be "Hope" powered...

Strange this is what I get for not getting comic books for a few months. The anti corps were black at one time and the manhunters in the Millenium story arc showed they had a red ring that almost KOed hal.

yeah... i give up with Green Lantern actually following continuity at the moment...

just go with the flow and hope they fix it all up eventually...

at the moment, Green Lantern's history makes Powergirl's origins look stable lol

I hated this story line, With a passion, fair enough it brought Kylie along but who cares , Let kylie get his own story (Kylie is my fav Lantern before poepl think I am hating on him), BUt it was just a poor story for Hal.

Oh about the powergirl, in the early ninties, check issue 106 of JLA powergirl had a child.

Emerald Twilight was a great story! If not for it, I don't think the first couple books of the current Green Lantern would have been as good as they were!

I believe Hal was always that one GL that everyone never wanted to see anything happen to. ET definitely didn't do him any favors. I enjoy the story arc simply because it does introduce Kyle into the mix. But overall, I didn't think the story held up well. As Smasher previously stated, it felt a touch contrite for the Guardians to come down on Hal for doing the same things past GL'ers have done involving the power ring thing. It was like the writers were looking for a way to knock Hal off the pedestal and place Kyle up there. Now, I don't have a problem with Kyle being "the man", but not at the expense of a character like Hal. He might not be my favorite Earth GL, but I give him the respect due a character of his stature.

And Methos, I am with you on the retcon issue. I might not be thrilled with the idea of "Ion" and I think it made Kyle WAY too powerful, but as far as how it was written.. I love the story. He gives up being Ion and then right at the end as Jade dies, she gives her piece of the Starheart to him and allows him to become Ion again. For me, being such huge fans of Jade and Kyle.. it was some type of nice closure for me. Yes she was dead, but I was content knowing a piece of her lived on inside of Kyle. They've since ruined that for me, so I find myself a bit jaded (pun intended). I'm wishing for her to somehow return, though certainly not with a black ring. Jade's power and her strength makes me wish she had the Blue "Hope" ring. She overcame the brutal childhood attack and she didn't let that stop her. She bonded with her Father and her Brother, accepted Obsidian's lifestyle.... And she brought alot of light into Kyle's life. I think she'd be ideal for a symbol of Hope.

I guess I looked at this story a little differently! Not looking at Hal the character but putting myself in his shoes, making his situation my own. If I dedicated my life to the Corps and didn't really ask for much in return and my hole world gets destroyed. I would be fragging pissed off if when i did ask for something that was within their power and they told me no, but that is just me!

No! Renegade, I think your insights are very good! It's always nice to have a counter viewpoint to your own. Makes for a friendly debate. It also may allow you to see something you missed while reading it. Thank you for sharing yours on this story. smiling

From this thread it looks like I'm the only one that liked it, I even based my character off Emerald Twilight

I personally loved it. Zero Hour was my first read and I was hooked from then on. I fell in love with Parallax as a character and naturally bought every comic starring him shortly there after starting with Emerald Twilight. I LOVED IT. I even have GL 49 CG graded=] And if it wasn't for Ron Marz bold leap to change the status quo we'd end up with GL being the DC version of Spiderman which imo is practically the same story every issue. So I'm beyond thankful to the man. Because that story blatantly had an impression on Geoff Johns who has done more to the popularity of GL in the last 5 years that n the 20 before.
