Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. This week we decided to check out another of the recent LEGO sets: LEGO Green Lantern Vs. Sinestro.
This is a smaller set with 174 pieces. It won't take you too long to build. It comes with Hal Jordan, Sinestro, and (of course) Space Batman. The retail price is $19.99. You should be able to find this in stores or online.
We know by know that Batman is pretty much always going to be in the DC LEGO sets. Maybe it's just in his contract. We know pretty much everyone, including those that don't read comics, likes him and knows him. The cool thing about this set is we get Hal and Sinestro.
In this set, you can also build a Green Lantern Power Battery. It's one of the most important things to a member of the Green Lantern Corps. Sinestro used to be a member of the Corps so he knows a thing or two about the batteries as well.
Sinestro prefers the Yellow Power Ring now. In this set, you can give him a yellow constructed power staff thingy. Perhaps, in this situation, Hal's ring is a little low on power. He needs to recharge it so may not have enough to put a stop to Sinestro's evil scheme.
Sinestro knows the value of the battery so he builds a special place to lock it up to prevent Hal from getting it back. Yeah, Sinestro can be a bit of a jerk sometimes. That's just how he is.
Hal might be in a bit of trouble now. Lucky for him, he's friends with Batman. Surely Batman, the guy with no superpowers, could help him retrieve his ring. Batman has everything, even a space suit. When Hal tells him about his problem, of course Batman will be willing to help.
Batman's cape is a rubbery plastic material. There's two different versions. You can put him in walking around mode or space-flying mode. He also comes with two different heads. He has his regular Batman face along with a covered space mask face.
This set also comes with a super-jumper plastic piece. You put a figure on it and you can push it down to make them "jump."
Because Hal's ring is a little low on its charge, let's just say he has enough left to build a Green Lantern spaceship.
With this spaceship, he can fly over to Sinestro and try to get his battery back.
If you rotate the rocket piece in the back center, it will fire two green missiles. There's also a couple smaller pieces that can be fired.
While this showdown is going underway, let's not forget about Batman. He's busy with his own part of the plan.
While Sinestro was busy fighting Hal, Batman snuck in and reclaimed the Power Battery. Then when Sinestro discovered this and was distracted, Hal managed to suckerpunch him.
But what will Batman do with the Green Power Battery now?
Come on, you know you'd do the same thing.
It's a pretty good set. It's not too expensive and you get some cool figures. Hal might not really need a spaceship but it has a nice design and the colored pieces look good.
Before we end this week's edition, there's one more thing:
Hal's worst nightmare.
Sinestro used to be one of the greatest Green Lanterns around. So you can relive those moments by putting his head on Hal's body. While you're at it, you can also make Batman a Yellow Lantern. I used one of the many other Batman heads for this.
That's it for this week. Let us know what you think of this set. We'll have another item featured next time.
