    He goes from a muscular black dude who looked older than he might have been... to suddenly being overweight, much older, and a bit balding. 
     
    Why the change?? Not to mention it seemingly happened within the span of a year.

    It's pretty unusual to see a character's physique change so much, but is it so wrong to let someone look their age?  After all, he was created in the early 90's when all characters had to have steroid-pumped muscles.  Is it so wrong to break from the stereotype physique of a stereotypical comic character?

    No, there's nothing wrong with a character looking their age. But when it's done suddenly and for no reason, it looks like the creators just didn't waste time with silly things like research.
